chick1
Mabe this is a dumb question but does wing clipping stop them from flying all together? or does it just impair them? Just wondering if it would be my best option really as we live direct onto the fields which also has a public footpath on it so plenty of chance for passing doggy mouths. So i dont really want my girls to be able to escape that easily. cluckbok
Hi ya, It just unbalances them so it's difficult to fly, it won't stop them flapping around altogether. They still can jump on things though, but maybe not as high.
cluckbok
P.S. We have a 6ft fence and ours have never jumped on it or gone over it. We have put plenty of bushy plants around. I don't think they want to go over the fence, they know where their bread is buttered
flowerangelk8x
hi, don't rely on gingernuts not being able to fly! we have one and she flys up onto the top of the 4 ft fence and then into the middle of the garden..... she thinks shes a soaring eagle! i think i'll have to have a word with her and tell her that as i have clipped her wing and that she is in fact a chicken, she can't fly!!!! bless
fluffyknickers
Mine are all clipped and still manage to fly up at me and into the cube door to try and get out! Then today my flew high at me to get their treat and tonight escaped from the netting - I dont know if this was under or over though. So I would say, yes clip them! It's easy and painless. Lewis
I clipped mine's wings and one of the white stars used to take a run up and use the mesh on the walk in run as a ladder and sit on the top If there are dogs, you don't want them to get to the dogs, but if a dog gets in, you want them to be able to get away. Paola
I clipped a wing of each of my cream legbars and it made no difference
Mutrix Farmers
All of ours have been clipped and they can all get over the Omlet netting. Jess can fly half the length of the garden if she wants to (about 30ft). Lead weights around ankles or wing removal might be the only solution!
