ali-s
I've spent 4 hours today baking Needed to start a new bag of flour for the last cake and When I took it out of the cupboard it was crawling with crawly things I have taken everything out of the cupboard and washed it all down with very hot soapy water. Will that be enough to get rid of the blighters? Thankfully none of the other bags of flour I used were infested Anyone fancy helping with the washing up
Lesley
er.... no thanks Ali Flour mites - the good clean with hot water should do the trick. Own up anyone else who has noticed mites after baking and eating a cake? or is that just me?

ubereglu
It sounds more like weevils to me, sometimes you get them in flour. The place where my Mum works is a natural food store and sometimes they get them in things. To kill them off put the bag of flour in another bag and then in the freezer that way they will die. Then you send the bag back to the company.

One Man Banned
Confession from careless bread makers... We made some bread a few years ago in the breadmaker, set it overnight but forgot about it. Went away on holiday and came back Hadn't thought about making bread for ages. One day I was cleaning the kitchen and saw these little white things around the plug socket, on the tiles, on the breadmaker.... The loaf was still in the breadmaker after 6 weeks and the weevils had all grown and multiplied. (odd as I thought that the baking would kill them but a baker friend said not) Breadmaker got binned asap and the whole kitchen was bleached. This was about 4 years ago now - told Joe's parents (who bought the breadmaker) that it had broken and was exchanged for the same one but in silver! Chicken on a mission
You sound so much like me and those little white lies to save face with the person that gave you the breadmaker in the first place is very me too
The Dogmother
I inherited flour weevils from a bag bought in Tesco - which, needless to say went straight back. I now keep all my flour and other dried ingredients sealed un plastic containers.
Louise
Years ago I found mites in the flour and promptly disposed of it and cleaned up etc I then told my husband when he came in what I had done to explain why we had no flour or cereal etc in the house and what did he say 'Oh I thought the flour had herbs added' Turns out he had been using it for a couple of weeks

HappyHen
Nope - I opened a plastic tub once and was creeted by a tub of the little critters. Though I only had to clean the tub not the whole cupboard!
