For Dan! (The Kylie "newspaper thread")!

Recommended Posts

I wondered why you hadn't contacted your local paper Dan :?

Go for it! - as Annie says, they'll probably include it, next week.

You'll be able to tell them that it was you who was screaming for an hour

(PS - in the full story it does say that they weren't told until theFriday - after school)

I don't know how coincidental this is, but yesterday evening 6 very nice young ladies (years 5 and 6) one with a very cute little Westie dog, knocked on our door to ask if Harry was coming out to play

He already had a friend round so I asked them to call back another time, they went off giggling and 5 minutes later Harry and his friend decided they were bored on the computers so could they go out on the bikes. I said no the the bikes as it was too late so they had a walk round to their other friend who lives around the corner

I know now how it must be to have a famous son  The pressure

Concerning boosting Juliette up a bit, we all have that concern. :? It seems to go in phases - one of the children seems to have a phase of riding on the crest of a wave while the other one seems a bit low-key, then they swap over and it's the other way round! As long as it's not one-sided then that's fine. They'll grow up secure enough to accept that other people have their share of the limelight too!

I'm sure she'll be fine

The tooth fairy came while she was at school, it was the extra-special working overtime fairy as they had been very busy and had to make a special journey for her tooth as it was so important

I am hoping her Doctor Who mag comes tonight

She is going away with the school for a few days, just before half-term on an outward bounds jolly so she has had lots of new clothes, so she is not that hard done to

It will be her first time away without us, Harry went a couple of years ago and had a whale of a time abseiling, climbing, fencing he loved it :D He came back with a bag full of muddy clothes and a bar of soap that had never been used

 Wow that's a coincidence! Cathy had complained that the tooth fairy has missed her this week as well, but do you know what? That tooth fairy on daytime overtime has been here too!! Isn't she dedicated!

Is Juliette looking forward to her trip? I remember mine going on those in primary school. We had items of clothing that never recovered from the mud. :? And the toiletries bag came home exactly as I had sent it!

Oh, yes, we've been there too. Both of mine did activity holidays in Year 6. Son didn't touch his soap or toothpaste  , and brought home mounds of muddy clothes. Daughter did wash, or at least her soap got used, as well as an entire bottle of shampoo..... apparently she showered twice daily and washed her hair each time, I got told off for not packing her enough. Everything came back stinking of far too much "Charlie" body spray, as all the girls seemed to feel the need to make themselves smell "nice" for the evening discos :roll:

On the whole I think I preferred the boys soapless approach.... not quite as smelly :wink::wink:

Dan, seriously, if you email them a picture with a write up, they'll include it! Honest! Go for it!

Debs has just called to confirm that there is a pic of Harry at his desk working and the pic of Kylie signing the cover of his book in the paper today and a mate of hers from work says that the little newsboards outside the newsagents are carrying the legend; "Schoolboy meets Kylie" or words to that effect!

COOL!

Dan, the same thing happened to us when we went to the Palace. The local papers were full of a Horley boy 'who was lucky enough to be invited', both before and after the event - so two weeks running. DD2 wondered why she hadn't been mentioned, but I guess I'm not pushy enough! :(

DD3 presented a slide show and an assembly on the visit at her school, so she was a celebrity there! :) and our church ran a story and pictures in the monthly magazine. :)

Dan, I think it is partly to do with realising that your children are missing out because you are not pushy like other children's parents. So then we, who wouldn't have dreamt of doing anything like that, start behaving the same way because 'that's what you do'. And we want our children to have the same opportunities that other people's children are having.

Yes, mine did exactly that at various things and missed out because they were polite. I feel very uncomfortable saying 'push yourself to the front' but polite children aren't even noticed by the adults giving out the 'treats'. :( What are we teaching our children?

That's exactly why everyone here is so impressed to hear that Harry asked Kylie to autograph the book for Juliette. That sort of self-sacrificing kindness doesn't exist anymore. AND IT SHOULD!

As a thought, our children's generation are the people who will be in charge when we are in our dotage. Do you think they'll look after us old people? Or will we just not be noticed because we're standing last in the queue? :?
