fluffyknickers
I bought a pecking block from Flyte So Fancy for my three girls. I put it up last Sunday and its nearly all gone already and for £6.20 plus P&P I expected it to last longer. Was it wishful thinking on my behalf - is that how long they last? Or should it last longer? I bought one from Petsmart for wild birds and it was cheaper and lasted a LOT longer (but thought I would try the Flytes so Fancy as assumed was going to last even longer!) so think I will have to go back to these (or try making my own). Redwing
I believe that there was a poor batch that crumbled much easier than the rest, as far as I know its back to normal now so maybe you got one of the dodgy ones? How about making your own? I posted a recipe a few days ago that I half-inched from another forum
fluffyknickers
Ahhhh could be! The girls are loving it though. I will have to email them and see what they say. Michelle

Redwing
Ta da! Cut and pasted from another forum You will need a stick of some sort, garden cane works well, cut a piece of cane and drill a hole near one end for hanging it up. Next collect the ingredients you want to add, mixed corn, pellets etc. Crack a fresh egg into a bowl, mix the egg with a few dessert spoons of flour & a drop of water. So that it forms a runny paste. Cut a long wide piece of kitchen tin foil. Then in the bowl that you have the mixed egg & flour, add the mixed corn etc, mix it all up so the mixed corn & pellets start to stick together. Give it a good mix so that everything is coated. Spoon the mix onto the tin foil to make a long sausage shape, you can add the stick through the middle at this stage. Then wrap the foil around the ingredients and press firmly so it sticks together to form a sausage like shape. Then put it in the oven at 120 degrees for an hour to let it dry out slowly. Check it's hard, if not leave a bit longer then let it cool and let the birds test it out.

Falkor
Thankyou!!!! What else should I add? Dried meal worms? pumpkin seeds? Raisons? And what about some honey? I don`t think it will smell as nice as the cupcakes though!
Egluntyne
Thanks Redwing.....I'm going to give this a try. Have added it to the Omlet Cookbook. Well it has got an egg in it!
Patricia W
I've had a Peckablok for months. It's nibbled round the edges but that's it. They aren't in the run much though so that may be the difference. I must try that recipe though!
TAJ
I have to say they usually last my girls about a month, but the last ones they have eaten in a couple of weeks. Also I recommended Flytesofancy to a friend and they have report 4 girls eating a whole one in less than a day! That was after the problem batch, so it looks as though there still is a problem. Janty
It's interesting that other people have found that they are crumbling. I had one ages ago that lasted weeks. The current batch are lucky if they make a day. I may give them a call.
Barkisland
Interesting thread. My first peckabloks lasted for weeks, then I bought some more and each barely lasted a day - I thought it was my girls being greedy, but it looks like I might have had some faulty ones? I will order some more then - but I agree, they are an expensive treat if they only last a day!
Cinnamon
Timely - I bought 2 last week & my 8 monsters destroyed it in a day
Space Chick
Then put it in the oven at 120 degrees for an hour to let it dry out slowly. Is that Fahrenheit or Centigrade? Anyone know what Gas Mark I should use?
redfrock
I bought 6 at the end of Feb and they have also lasted a very short time compared to my previous batch. I left them all in the box as it was dry and cool in there (they were also boxed in polystyrene foamy stuff which I can't stand ). I took one out a couple of weeks ago and it was covered in thick green mould. The other 2 were fine so I know it is nothing I have done. I am still waiting for a response from the supplier (not FF) Definitely still dodgy batches lurking around methinks
cathybc
I recently obtained 4 from Ascott Poultry. One came with instructions on how to get your chooks to use it - the girls must surely know it's food,I thought. However, it has been up for two weeks and the three of them have hardly touched it. I didn't follow the instructions - perhaps I should have done? We shall see if it continues to gradually go down...
fluffyknickers
Well, this morning it was bye-bye peckablock after less than a week - totally gone. An expensive treat for my three girls - one that wont get again! Michelle

Surrey Hen
I bought 2 packablocks ages ago and the first one lasted ages - admittedly it took them a couple of weeks to work out they could eat it. The second one lasted less than a week and I had assumed it got damp in the bad weather and disintegrated. I might try making my own now
fluffyknickers
As mentinoed my first lasted no time at all so they kindly sent me another FOC. However only last a few days so i wont be buying these anymore unless the product is changed. Michelle
