Griffin
Woohoo! After the disappointment of all the Silkie eggs I was incubating being clear I set about trying to find somebody that'd have Silkie day olds that I could buy around the time the rest of my eggs hatched. My eight year old Emily had been so looking forward to having her own white Silkie. I posted on a few poultry forums with an appeal and one man in particular contacted me to say that he didn't have day olds but he did have a young white Silkie who he needed a new home for because she was being bullied but that at the moment she was broody and on some eggs which are due to hatch this week. She'd need a home once she'd raised her chicks or sooner if they didn't hatch and would I like to have her here? Of course we would! We've exchanged a few PM's and yesterday he said that if I wanted to I could take her and the chicks ASAP so that he could use her coop for another broody She's on some Brahma eggs that are due to hatch tomorrow so next week I might have more than a beloved and much wanted Silkie to contend with A lovely surprise Edited May 15, 2009 by Guest
Plum
How exciting congratulations but did you want a lot of Brahmas as well? Bet you never expected this outcome and you'll have those little chicks you wanted.
dame egna
Awww that's nice - I too would love a silkie and might chance it with a day old chick or two and hope I don't get a male!!!
Griffin
How exciting congratulations but did you want a lot of Brahmas as well? I honestly don't mind. With my growers already and more chicks due soon I've got everything I'd need for them anyway. With the eggs that were not fertile having been removed I'm ending up with less chicks than I'd anticipated for anyway so a few extra mouths to feed isn't a worry
BeckyBoo
How FAB!! I love Brahmas so I'd be more excited about them than the silkie but how lovely for your daughter!! Brahma boys are magnificent too, sadly I couldn't keep ours, a gorgeous cock-a-doodle-doo sound, very deep baritone! But once he tried having his wicked way with me too as I collected an egg from the run he had to go Oh and by the way, here's what a beautiful pure white silkie looks like when she's dustbathing!
