Well after my sucessful hatch last year and the huge amount of chick related threads this year by other omleteers, I have been tempted into increasing my flock by hatching once more as found it so fufilling and perfect for introducting new hens last year.

 

DD has been desperate for a Silkie for ages so went to see a breeder with the idea of getting 3/4 silkie eggs.. however came away with a few more eggs than planned which are now safely under the same broody as last year ( she was so good!)

 

Black Silkie (x2)

Partridge Silkie

Speckled Sussex

Light Sussex

Gold Brahma

Gold Laced Wyandotte

Cream Legbar

 

 

Breeder is having all males back (except sussex males which have different route planned)

Hoping to end up with a couple of girls with at least one silkie!..any more and would need to expand run yet again

 

So joining the rest of you and watching the clock ticking!

So exciting!

 

Just candled and have 5 growing well, one I can't see as thick blue shell and 2 that are clear so need to remove.. so thats a potential 6 half way to hatching.. fingers crossed they carry on doing well

 

So pleased with the 2 black Silkies as I can see them move about already! Just hope they hatch succesfully and a ones a girl for DD

 

Have tried to take pic but not that easy with a blanket over my head to make it dark

PS, now that they are out and about, they don't eat as much, so will have lots left anyway. So exciting - not long now.

Yep, they are 4 weeks old now - have taken photo's each weekend, just need to get them loaded up. I think they are all girls going by their neck feathers. Just shout when you want the feed - s'no problem, especially as the bakers is very popular in Old Basing - yummmmmm. Or drop in and have a butchers on your way home from work. I've got DS's birthday on Friday/Saturday followed by Canadian cousins on Sunday, so I am blitzing this week!

Not due to hatch until Sunday but the three Silkies are already tapping away.. not yet pipping but very loud taps and squeaks. getting excited but bit worried its rather soon.. do Silkies usually hatch earlier?

 

The other eggs are still moving but quiet..

Hi - I stopped turning mine on Sunday, they pipped Monday night & hatched Tuesday morning. Just under 2 days left on the incubator timer. They are perfect!

 

Those were silkies too.

Thanks All .. sounds about a possible 19 days, my pekins hatched on day 18 but these are LF Silkies so thought they would go longer..

 

I am really excited but hope Beanz doesn't give up on the other eggs if these hatch earlier..

Oh I didn't know that.. the pekins were early but they are bantams so expected it... although trust yours to be different bless her soul

 

Looks like first one is on its way... Partridge Silkie is pipping and all 6 are now cheeping away..

 

Just dropped a few specs of water on them as very dry under her this year.

 

Off to work now but back home this afternoon so hoping for some news then !

How exciting for you. As you know, mine are due the same day but heard that they can be a bit late under a broody. I can't see or hear anything yet.

Just had call from DD...We have a Cream Legbar chick and the Brahma on the way..

 

Looks like the biggies are going to beat the Silkies afterall!

 

I'm home later so will post pics and hopefully have a couple more

Just got home..Cream Legbar is lovely but sure its boy mottled colouring with yellow spot on head.. and no sign of any black stripes.

 

Can anyone confirm this? will post pic later when 'Mum' has her break.

Mine went under broody about midday on the Saturday.. first thought due today then realised I'd worked it our wrong and due Sunday But all coming today!

 

 

Now have Cream Legbar, Gold Brahma, Black Silkie & Partridge Silkie all hatched and looking good

 

Still Silkie & Speckled Sussex to go.. both have pipped and large holes just need to push!

 

Got a couple of pic but once all out and dried tomorrow will get more so I can post!
