We're all planning walk in runs! PART 2!

Recommended Posts

What are we going to do with this weather - can't get WIR prep work started for weather :wall: Couldn't dig at weekend as ground frozen and now can't see the ground for snow :boohoo: Bought second hand slabs last night - meant to be picking more of them up today but unlikely. We'll be ready to get chickens by christmas and not easter at this rate!

I've done it! I've just given my card details to Omlet to get myself a new Cube (2nd hand ones being so few and far between) and have also dropped a line to Tony asking him if I can have a 15 x 6 x 6ft WIR!!

Thanks very much to you all for help and guidance here - no doubt I'll be back with updates and photos in the next few weeks. Looking to get battery hens this time around and have already got spot for my WIR (though needs slab on sand base (I think that's what we're doing)).

Whoopee! :dance::dance::dance:

How exciting and speak to you soon :D

emchook - love it. You're beating us by a pophole  perhaps we need to change our order :lol:

Judy - fingers crossed the weather isn't too bad for you tomorrow

Donna - very exciting, keep us posted.

OH is collecting a second hand cube on Saturday (sorry Donna) and wants to go chook hunting on Sunday :P I may get round to starting an advice request thread re introductions later (having trouble finding someone who does what we are both after and it seems best not to do single intros - OH wants to stick to 2 more max :( ) and I haven't found a thread covering this yet.

There's a useful guide to introductions here :) .

If you do a search for "introductions" you should find a few threads - there have been quite a few folk doing introductions recently (including myself back in September!)

Thanks ANH - have read several (dozen) threads on an 'intros' search. Think we will have to be patient to get what we both want or re-discuss types... although I am being badly 'fluenced by some omleteers to 'go chook shopping by myself'

Perhaps we should just move to have space for DEFRA registration - addictive? Nooooo

Buy loads more chucks and then blame it on us

Anyone can opt for DEFRA registration and with any number of hens me thinks

Houston -we have a problem :(

Tony says the WIR won't fit where its supposed to go because of the slope  I thought it was a one way slope (which is OK ) but it slopes two ways (which is not ) :wall:

So it has had to go at the top of the garden instead of near the back door. This isn't a real problem as I don't mind going to the top of the garden myself but I am thinking about my friends who look after the chickens when we are away :anxious: because the light won't reach that far

oh no !

How often do you go away ??? Am sure the neighbours wont mind too much .. And the chickens will be very safe inside there...so you wouldnt need to lock them away at night ..

Have you got a spot at the bottom of the garden to put it on?

Oh no........

But how about some solar powered lights (or electric ones but needs wire burying and stuff) to guide them up to the WIR and then invest in a rechargable lantern torch which you keep by the back door and can be hung in the WIR as required
