craftyhunnypie
Marlene our gold laced wyandotte has been sat on eggs for 21 days tomorrow. We popped shopping, came back, checked on Marlene & there under her tail was a chick. It's hatched from her own egg & looks quite dark. Not fluffed up totally yet. It's very sweet. She is still sat on 4 more eggs & clucking happily. I am so pleased. Boon our partridge cochin is the daddy - so I expect the chick will grow up to be a big one! Not inspected the chick properly yet - will do tomorrow & hopefully take pics. Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
Think the shop thought I was a bit odd buying a bag of marbles yesterday. I haven't checked for more chicks as the broody coop is in the large chicken shed & all the other chooks were roosted up for the night. Marlene looked quite content though. Will let you know in the morning when I change the water, top up the chick crumb etc. I'm so excited! Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
We've called it Mini me ( Austin Powers). Mainly because it is a mini Marlene & it had to have a unisex name. Hope you like its name. Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
Hubby let the girls out this morning & said the chick had almost doubled in size. What he meant was it was fluffed up! It poked its head out as cheeky as anything. He's going in with his camera soon & to check for any more chicks. Mini me - seems a funny name for it - as I'm sure it will grow up a big 'un. Once he's taken a photo, I can study it properly to see if it has fluffy feet like its Cochin daddy or whether it's more like its GL wyandotte mummy. You can never tell what colour chicks are going to turn out, as my sister had a pure white vorwerk cross chick that turned out black & dark buff! Oh I hope I have some more chicks! craftyhunnypie
Here is Marlene my Gold laced Wyandotte & her chick Mini me. What do you think it's more like - A gold laced wyandotte or partridge cochin chick? It doesn't appear to have fluffy feet. Cute eh? craftyhunnypie
I have 3 chicks. Marlene came off the nest yesterday & turfed out one egg. We cracked them open & one was infertile, but the other had a part developed chick. So that was 4 out of 5 fertile eggs - not bad eh? Marlene has been showing them how to eat, drink, dustbathe - everything! They are very lively! We got a dark striped chick called Mini me & 2 yellowy ones. One with fluffy feet! The yellowy ones are called Dizzy & Rascal (after the DJ). Rascal is the fluffy feet one & is a real rascal. They are eating the chick crumb & so is mummy. I had also put mummy hen a pot of layers pellets in - hooked onto the broody coop, so the chicks can't reach. Is this ok - I mean what do you feed mummy hen?
