**UPDATE** Day 20 4 hatched! - PICS

Recommended Posts

Just picked up one of the eggs while Chive was on her break... it moved and cheeped! So excited.

OK, hubby doesn't believe it cheeped as some starlings down the road were also cheeping - but I know what direction the noise came from!

So, we have at least one viable egg. It has been impossible to candle them. I don't think either of the Seramas will hatch after Chilli stole then abandoned them :wall: but am hopeful for the five remaining Legbars. Muggins here has to work and hubby's on a course, but cameras are set up so I can log in from the office and check on progress. I'll be working short days this week I think...

Fingers crossed!

Tx

Saw a chick on the webcam this morning so rushed home from work as early as I could. Took Chive off for a break and found FOUR babies! The little one is a (very cheepy) Serama which I had lost hope of - Chilli stole and then abandoned the Serama eggs a week ago, they were a bit chilly when i found them. The other Serama egg is pipping, though it was trapped in a Legbar eggshell when I got home, so may not get out. One of the two remaining Legbar eggs is also pipping. So much for a 50% hatch rate...... Chive is obviously an exceptional mummy.

Of the legbars so far it looks to me like two girls - very defined markings - and one boy. What do you think?

Little Serama (just hatched, a little damp):

Ooooh, I'm so excited!

I know guys, isn't he tiny? You could easily fit two serama in a Legbar egg  He/she looks a bit ugly duckling now, but they are BEAUTIFUL adults! Wait til I tell the breeder what a good job Chive's done with the Serama - he's been having real trouble hatching these in the incy.

Cheep cheep cheep (hatch) Poor Chilli's going to have the right hump - she's not even allowed any eggs to sit on and Chive's got babies! Cinnamon is enjoying being a house chicken when we're not at work - she needs the company, bless her.

we have one serama egg amongst amongst those Lacey is sitting on....I'm so excited! but I tried candling today (day eight) and really couldn't see anything.

I'm going to ignore that though cos I'm rubbish at candling anyway

It appears that I'm also rubbish at candling as I couldn't see into them at all. Mind you, I'm looking at the shell now and it's quite thick  must have been terribly hard work for something that small to break out :)

She is brilliant, I took her out today but they were jumping around and making such a racket she had one mouthful of food before demanding to go back in. So she now has her supper (pellet porridge and seed) within easy reach.

Babies have their supper in the nest box - the three eldest are total gannets:

I think we have another boy on the legbar side (the one at the back):

And the two Seramas have dried out and fluffed up nicely:

Oh, and the darker of the legbar girls has been jumping up and flapping her little wings, trying to get out of the nest box to eat mummy's food. It is far too high for her, the little madam!
