Aphids!!!!!!

 

The last couple of days we have had clouds of aphids - they are everywhere!!

 

We can't even speak outside without swallowing a couple I hope we soon have enough ladybirds to cope with the infestation......I have never seen so many.

Loads and loads here too, it's like a greenfly-athon outside Last year we had loads of ladybirds in the garden, they seem to like one of our trees/weeds, I lost count at 60 ladybirds and baby ladybirds (larvae?!).

There are more in the greenhouse than outside now - plus I have been squirting with the garlic mix. There are loads on the valerian and teasels though - the chicksies have been doing their best to scoff them.

I have noticed this too and everytime I put my washing out it gets covered in them too

Aaaaarrrrgggh! - I've just sent Carl out with all the dog blankets to hang on the line...........I forgot the aphids

I have just returned from lunch with my OH and on our way through town an aphid flew into my mouth and set me off in a huge coughing fit He thought is was soooo funny

I got a greenfly in my eye when I was walking home this evening.

They really are prevalent this year.

I am inspecting and washing my tomato plants regularly.

 

Know your enemy! On the basis that if we know how they reproduce and how long it takes we will be better able to protect our crops, I did a bit of research.

My chickens are loving it! They spend their free range time leaping gracefully into the air catching greenfly in flight - or pecking them off their eglus. I keep hearing this tap, tap, tap, when I'm out there - sounds like chicken morse code !
