Shut your eyes fathers day ideas?

Recommended Posts

the kids are getting their dad a new wallet as the loose change keeps falling out of the zippy bit (don't want to say purse . . . ) of his current one. Not sure what I will get mine. Probably some chocolate brazils. One year the 'kids' got him a 'relaxing in the garden set' which consisted of sun hat and some nice botttles of beer.

My dad loves anythink a little personal, when me and my sister were young he loved anything home made.

This year i have had a lovely photo of me and him on my wedding day last october framed up. Have also got him some of those no1 dad type chocs you can get and me and oh are going to go round and do a big bbq for him - he will be thrilled :D

Layla always gets something they can do together (brilliant from my point of view - I sometimes get a day off from both of them!)

Started with soft blocks to play with when she was a baby and has progressed through to a 3D snakes and ladders game and, more recently, a day out (she managed to read my instructions to navigate him to the Bird of Prey centre that she loves).

Now she is 8 she has more input. Last year it was a water filter - something she wanted us to get and they both do drink lots of water :D

We haven't talked about what she wants to do this year, yet.

The Pocket Knife called the Wave. He loves it and it goes just about everywhere with him. He always takes in on holiday. Last year however going to Italy, he forgot to pack it in the suitcase and it got discovered in his hand luggage  It was an embarrasing discovery as you can imagine. They were obviously going to confiscate it which was heartbreaking for him. They took pity on him and let me go back through customs with it where I nipped into WHSmith and bought a jiffy bag and some stamps. I then posted it back home and there was a very happy reunion when we got back home

My 11 year old would love one and as we live in a rural village it would be great to take out to whittle etc but with the knife situation as it is boy+knife=accusation of being a thug (especially as my boys are of mixed race). It is sad but that's the way it is.

My Dad would be very unhappy to receive a knife - superstition says if you give a knife you cut your friendship!

If your Dad is given a knife as a present, he should give the person (who gave him the knife) a coin, usually a penny. This means he buys the knife and saves the friendship.

If you crossed knives on the dining table my Nan went in to shock horror mode. She said crossed knives mean an argument is in the offing. Also you never opened an umbrella indoors, it would bring rain and misfortune on the house..
