Cooks
my son has two joint teachers for his form tutors, they seemed really nice, I hope he gets on well with them. Not a malteser in sight when I met them last.
Helly Welly
Having a crisis tonight. Mini Welly's hamster, Elephant, is dying so she's all upset. OH is away in New York so i've put her in my bed, hopefully she'll sleep better. Her hamster is very old, must be over 3 years old easily. He's completely wrinkly, bald and acually look slike an elephant. Mini Welly has been prepared for this, i knew it would happen just when she really needs her sleep. redhotchick
Oh my goodness, what a lovely thread! It seems so many people have an angle on this (ANH there will be many other firsts to come!) I had to get a school bus all my life, I was nearly 5 when I started school. The bus stop was outside my house and I was the 6th of 7 children. I can never imagine my mum was worrying or sneaking a peek out of the window to see if I was ok. Maybe she was, but she was always so busy. I must ask her! What a coincidence it would be if Cookiemonster and ChickenLicken had found a connection! HellyWellie, what an upsetting time for you. I was at the vets yesterday with my (relatively healthy) cat. I was aware of a couple of distressing incidents, (although handled sensitively by the practice) and felt drained by my visit. Chucky Mama, what lovely siblings your YS has. iar fach goch
My YS has started school today, just for two hours a day but I still feel as if I'm losing my baby. He looked so grown up in his uniform, his two elder brothers quite proud at taking their baby brother into school! He waltzed straight in, hanging his coat up and off he went, leaving a very teary eyed mum outside. I'm sooooo soft, even though they drive me mad I love having them all home over summer and hate it when they all go back to school. How I will cope next year when he goes full time I don't know..... Busybird
Hi Chucky Mama. You don't look old enough to have all your kids at secondary school My DS1 started his new secondary school yesterday. All went well except that he lost the return portion of his bus ticket (later found safely stowed in a pocket of his wallet) and had to buy another single to get home Both DS1 and DD came home with a good hours homework which didn't impress either of them. They are also complaining that the school shoes they tried on 2 weeks ago are tight (they have a 3 mile walk too and from home / school and bus stops) so more shopping to be done... Chucky Mama
Hi Chucky Mama. You don't look old enough to have all your kids at secondary school I think I may love you I have 3 children 15, 13 and 11. They are a great gang, I love them dearly and I am glad that they are all now in the same school again. YS found it hard not being able to share with the older 2 on the same level as when they were at the same school. Now they are in the same gang again. I hate the whole buying school uniform and shoes etc. I have still not been able to find school trousers for my slim 15 year old. They are all too huge around the waist even with those elastic gadgets in them. We tried a pair yesterday and he said he felt like he was playing dress up in his Dad's clothes We used to get them from the National Schoolwear shop but Trutex have taken over and their trousers as are M & S are no good for my skinny long legged boy. chickencam
Have you tried the gents section in Primark or perhaps some of the supermarkets. My OH buys work trousers in shades of grey and black from such places and they are as cheap as chips, not very ethical I know but sometimes needs must. I have stopped buying boys things for my 13 year old because he is as tall and broad as a small man.
laurmurf
M&S used to do a slim-fit school trouser but I haven't seen them lately. I better check cause they're all that will fit my lads too sorry to hear about mini-welly's sorrows!
Cooks
MY 13 year old is a slim lad and I buy his trousers from tesco as they are the only ones he finds comfortable for the same reasons. Two pair pack for £
Helly Welly
Well, mini welly had a fab day at school. As expected, the hamster died in the night so i dealt with that whilst she was at school, then we went straight from school to get a new one. She felt really grown up at school today, didn't have any problems and totally settled in immediately. She loves that to buy lunch they scan your fingerprint, bit of a change from my day Everything went swimmingly and she wasn't upset about her hamster as it was expected. Also, instant replacement works really well. Hope everyone else's days went well.
Chucky Mama
Thanks for tips on school trousers. Could only find M & S slim fit up to age 10 though. I managed to find the make of trousers that he is in now 'Ziggy's' on Google and have ordered the next size up - fingers crossed I can keep getting them online. They are good because they are slim fitting with the elastic adjusters and are flat fronted.
Cooks
my YS had a very happy day today starting secondary school, he's very happy and has been very mature about things... maybe except worrying about getting on the wrong bus... i said use your mouth and ask the driver if your in doubt..... numpty! they are all numbered etc and today my older son saw him on the bus and then came back for breakfast with me before i left for work.. that was lovely I have to admit He starts tomorrow so they are together on the bus then... two pieces of homework on his first day albeit small pieces.. it did make me laugh though. Working out what sets he is in is the tricky part as they do not appear to be written down any where....
Seagazer
Well we have just dropped my little baby off and I'm afraid I did come away with tears in my eyes He looked so small going through the school gates. I shall pull myself together in a minute. He was looking forward to today though and was up bright and early and dressed, I know that won't last! Chucky Mama
It will feel like a long day for you . They will have so many exciting things to tell you this evening though. That is if you have a child that talks, so many of my friends have children that don't tell them anything about their school lives which I would hate. My 3 tell me everything (which can take a while!). I hope that you both have a good day
Seagazer
Well I've walked the dog with hubby (been made redundant as well so we're keeping each other company ), sorted the girls out, done the washing, had copious amounts of tea, coffee and its only 10.30!! My hubby asked me in the car this morning if I was like this with DD and ES and I suppose I was but this is worse as he's my last and you know that from now on they start to leave you a little bit at a time. I know they always need their mum and dad (DD nearly 22 and ES 18) but YS is definitely starting to spread his wings.
Seagazer
Oh dear - I've just had to pick up YS from school. He didn't feel well last night, sore throat, headache etc but I thought it was just excitement/nerves. He's feeling very sick, he looks very pale and is shivery and shakey and he's taken to his bed, poor thing. He said when he wasn't feeling ill at school he had had a good time. So I'm not totally redundant after all
Chucky Mama
oh what a shame. Bet you couldn't wait to get your hands on him though for a cuddle. He probably wont miss much today and hopefully after a good sleep and a cuddle he will be fit and raring to go on Monday.

Helly Welly
Bless, get well soon. DD had a nose bleed this morning but luckily it didn't make her late for school. SHe had proper lessons today. She hates the PE teacher, i explained to her that all PE teachers after primary school are horrible but she should still do her best as at least it's exercise. She seemed happy with that. Some other teachers were lovely though, she's always worshipped her teachers at primary school so it's weird for her to have teachers she doesn't like. Science was the best lesson of the day. I hope that continues, it'll help her be the astronaut she's wanted to be since she was
Seagazer
Oh thanks everyone. He was sick last night and still looks off colour this morning but seems a bit brighter - I think he might have an ear infection too as he's got ear ache and feels dizzy (that could be his temp though) Hopefully he will be much better for Monday though - kids eh?
