pullusleggus
My dog has developed a serious taste for chicken poo and hunts around the garden for it. It doesn't seem to be upsetting his insides, but I'm not sure if I should really be stopping him (or just enjoying him cleaning the garden!) hanson
Totally normal! Mine loves them but is picky as he likes them only when they're fresh and doesn't do the curry type ones still means I have to pick up !

stoice
My dog does this for every type of poop - From my chickens, fox poop, rabbit raisins, horse poop. Luckily not her own Occasionally she's sick from OD-ing on the stuff (Not nice to clean up I can tell you!) Although it can be handy I'd rather she didn't as she could be devouring all sorts of nasties (I'm thinking worms when my girls are nearing their time for re-flubenvetting or slugs eggs and other creepy crawlies) Try telling her no though! pullusleggus
I never knew so many dogs ate poo! Noggin used to eat lamb poo when he was young and I was told it was because they'd been drinking milk. I was a bit surprised by his love of chicken poo, but I'm glad he should be OK as it really is useful. All I need now is for the chickens to eat dog poo and the recycling circle will be complete.... One of mine just used to roll in it (until he realised he was going to get hosed down every time he did it!!). Now they don't bother with it at all. thewhitehouse
Just a word of warning - if you worm your hens using any product with Ivermectin in it and your dog then eats the hen poo, your dog could potentially be in danger. Many breeds of dogs (particularly but not exclusively collies ) suffer a severe and often fatal reaction to ivermectin.

Many breeds of dogs (particularly but not exclusively collies ) suffer a severe and often fatal reaction to ivermectin. Good point thewhitehouse, Collies do have a sensitivity to ivermectin and it is well worth bearing this in mind when using medications containing it although the risk I am told is low - the ivermectic is metabolised and there may only be a trace if anything in the poo - as it is not something that has been tested for in (senario of testing feeding chicken poo to dogs in a lab makes me smile ) it is still worth bearing in mind if you have a collie. Flubenvet does not contain ivermectin.
