Lewis
There always used to be a mouse in with Babs in her hutch and she never used to mind, and I don't think it had any negative side effects. In the end we bought a humane trap, caught it and released it in a field a few miles up the road
Chucky Mama
There always used to be a mouse in with Babs in her hutch and she never used to mind, and I don't think it had any negative side effects. In the end we bought a humane trap, caught it and released it in a field a few miles up the road Sounds like a good idea. Rats are more of a worry than mice which I think almost come with the territory.

legend21
so bottom line is catch it, before the girls do. thanks J
4Clucks-minusOne
I have a cheeky field mouse that visits my girls. If they are in the run it sits outside and when they have gone to bed it goes into the run looking for soggy pellets they have scattered earlier. clootie
My old cochin Cilla used to throw mice up in the air a couple of times before swallowing them whole. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it for the first time. The tail hanging out of the beak is a lovely sight

Guest
Yes my broth in law(farmer) said if mine ever saw a mouse they would kill it! So it must be a brave mouse! indie

Redwing
As has already been said it wont harm the hens but they might harm it! Reduce the attractivness of your run by making sure spilled food etc.. is cleaned up and give treats in a bowl rather than scattering them The 'big cheese' mouse traps (the grey ones) are very good and easy to set, you could put a couple out (covering them with an angled sheet of wood to protect local birds etc..) be careful with traps if you get hedgehogs in your garden though
legend21
I did a big clear up yesterday, and they do through food around in the run. I will buy traps worried about other wild life as would hate to hurt anything even the little mouse. Needs must and thank you for the advice and stories jackie
