Olives and Grapefruits

Recommended Posts

After an interesting phone call from my friend, I have discovered she has no idea what olives or grapefruits are :o

Are the any people on here who do not know what they are :?:

If so, I'm sorry if I've offended you.

It's just my friend is very clever, abnormally so, and especially since she's taken Food Technology it made me giggle :wink:

:think::think::think::think:

Do I know? :think::think::think:

Are they a type of edible animal? :wink:

It amazes me, when my friends daughter was over a few weeks ago, she had no idea what a broad bean was, the Kohl Rabi I could understand, but a Broad Bean :shock:

I watched a Jamie Oliver programme a few years back, and was amazed when children didn't know carrots, leeks and other simple stuff, but they were little ones not teenagers. I mean an olive and a grapefruit are not that unusual.

I hope your friend is managing her 5 a day JJ. :D

yes she is :D

She's addicted to apples apparently :lol:

My other friend though :(

She allergic to most fruit; strawberries, apples, cherries (her favourite :roll: ), pears, peaches and she has mild asthma.

She still sneakily eats strawberries though as she loves them :roll: I yell at her though :wink:

At least she can have oranges which she adores.

Debs...what's a broad bean?

:wink:

What's that in the jar that we keep in the fridge :?:

We think we might have olive oil in our veins :lol::lol::lol:

We'd suggest introducing your friend to Kalamata olives.... life will never be the same again..... and then on to a range of queen olives, stuffed olives, olives with garlic, olives with lemon (don't bother with pimento!) :P:lol::lol::lol:8)

Thinking about it, last year DD had a friend round who would have been 11 at the time. I don't do chips too often but I did do proper ones.

"These are great," she said. "What are they made out of?" :roll:

She honestly did not realise that chips were potatoes!

:oops::oops::oops::oops: ........

when 3 1/2 year old was shopping with me in Sainsburys and kept returning to the olive buckets......you know....where you fill up little pots and then go and pay for them?......

How do you put said grandson on scales and tell the cashier he's your 'little pot'.........minus the stones he's given to grandma to dispose of :!::roll:

Blimey, we must be right toffs then!

My two lads are addicted to them, since they first had solids they have loved olives. Waiters in pizza restaurants are regularly gobsmacked to have them order pizzas with double olives on top...

It's my fault. When I was pregnant with them I ate loads of olives!

I used to run a food club after school and it was amazing how many teenagers had never seen onions, potatoes and carrots with their skins on... we would like to start up a veg plot now, to go alongside the KS4 business enterprise that produces hundreds of bedding plants every summer.

My oldest is brilliant at recognising fruit and veg, he can even name some of them in Welsh, although he probably wouldn't know what an olive is as neither me nor hubby like them. He definitely knows what a grapefruit is though, his face was a picture when he tried some for the first time :lol:

When we go out for a meal we have to order YS his own dish of olives to stand a chance of having some ourselves, yummy. :D

I was in Sainsburys the other day and the lady in front had a punnet of nectarines and the chap on the till (about 20 odd) asked her what they were. Surely he should of known his products? :roll:

I'm not a fan of either olives or grapefruit, about the only fruit fruit and veg I don't like funnily enough :?
