Jillus
Last Friday I fell in the street, hurt my knee, my hip and my toes and my pride. On Saturday my son came home for his pre Afghanistan leave. On Sunday I badly steam burned my arm when opening the oven door to a particularly active Yorkshire pudding and had to go to bed with my arm in a bucket of water. On Monday out of the blue I got offered a temporary job for the next 7 weeks. On Tuesday is started the job and came home with my head spinning. Yesterday my oldest and sweetest chicken Poppy died in her sleep in the middle of the afternoon. I don't know why I got up today, I have had far too much excitement, sorrow and pain for this week already!
Staffordmum
Good morning, Sorry to hear of the rotten week you've had - our thoughts are with you rgds your recent loss. Congratulations on the new job! Me too, start Monday ('til approx. Christmas). I have been bitten in the garden whilst tending the veg patch and the dog has destroyed a newly planted Clematis I spent all day completing a job aplication, stood up and smashed my knee cap on an open drawer - now that hurts! I am not looking forward to not being able to keep on top of housework (excess travelling) and the fact OH might just start "cooking" - to be "helpful" ... And it's raining - again ... Jillus
Thanks Pat, glad I am not the only one having mini traumas. I am not sure what to do with Poppy, she is in the barn laying in state ( how appropriate for a chicken) but as the boys are home I think we are going to have to have a cremation, if I bury her the fox is bound to sniff her out. What is the normal procedure? I too am getting a little concerned about who will cook, how I will manage all the house stuff and the doves and chickens but it will be worth it in the end. I am now going to be humming 'Things can only get better' all day , but thanks for all the encouragement.
Seagazer
Wow a week of highs and lows. I hope you have more highs in the future than lows.
Jillus
Just to let you know, my OH lit the garden brazier and we put Poppy in that after the fire was very hot, no smell or mess and she is now a pile of ashes. I have sprinkled some into the stream and OH will dispose of the rest. On the job front, I went in today and was asked if I would consider applying for a permanent job on a job share basis as another girl would also fancies doing that so I am going to give it my best shot. I am still temping until such time as they get someone. (And it could be me!!) The burns have blistered and I accidentally took the tops of two blisters and they are stinging again,my knees, hips and toes are fine and I am having a wonderful time with my son (20 days 'till he goes to you know where)
Ain't Nobody Here
Sounds like a good way to send Poppy on her way . The burns sounds painful . Hope they recover soon . Good news about the job though and lovely to have your son around for while .

Jillus
And so it goes on. Yesterday a sparrowhawk attacked one of my doves who is now in ICU in the dining room with a plucked breast, torn side and bloodied. Should survive though or so the Pigeon fanciers web site says. First full day in the new job today, fingers crossed for me. Prayers and thoughts for the boys in A.

Jillus
The job was fine, busy, lots of unexpected happenings but I got through it ! Home shattered, goodness knows how I will cope without my afternoon naps! The wee dove looks OK but cannot stand on the leg at all, eating and drinking fine though and I am hoping to hear from my Pigeon Pal on the Dove Forum for more advice. Jillus
I am feeling so proud of myself, my Pigeon Pal came round and he instructed me in the fine art of Dove Stitching and I have sewed together the skin over the birds thigh bone and it is looking wonderful! I am not sure it is going to be a thing of beauty when it heals but at least gangrene will not set in and I don't even have to take the stitches out. Nurse Jillus...doves my speciality! Olly
Wow - I'm not sure I'd care to attempt that, well done you! I hope the poor dove recovers, and your job continues to go well. Sounds as if this week is going to be as action-packed as the last one!
Staffordmum
The job was fine, busy, lots of unexpected happenings but I got through it ! Home shattered, goodness knows how I will cope without my afternoon naps! So sorry to hear about your dove (the reason I left my dovecote in Surrey ) & for a speedy recovery. Following the first week in my new job - I know the feeling - I am absolutely exhausted OH says I can by myself a Roomba, out of my own money. He has no faith in it - suggesting it's merely a "gadget" ... Struggling with the early starts to the park 'n' ride, the noise of ppl on the bus (I am a "quiet" person), being late home (12 hrs days!) & getting "wet". This doesn't happen door to door in one's own car, does it Next week I hope to try the motorbike (traffic due to increase when kids return to school!) - and then I really will get wet My w/e's are now full of chores - just to keep up with it all To make matters worse - I discovered my make up had leaked into my hand bag. I just threw the whole lot in the w/m and hoped for the best ... Finally - it's still raining Wishing you all a Happy Bank Holiday Monday. Jillus
Well my strange 7 days continues into another 7 I reckon.! My son got engaged on Thursday out of the blue and I got stung on the sole of my foot on Saturday! Every now and then it really itches and has come up in a great red lump! The stitches that I had so carefully put into the dove came apart and he is now left with an open wound which I am advised to leave to heal itself, I am spraying it with dry antiseptic spray every day. He remains in my Dove ICU. The job is very tiring but certainly getting the grey matter moving again, I collapse in a heap when I get in and hardly know when I am going to get time to do any housework. I live in Scotland so we never got the Bank holiday so I was in work ( it does have a certain ring to it!), but we did get the Bank Holiday weather, it has poured down all day My son left to return to base before he goes to you know where next week. We had a brilliant time, we had an early Christmas dinner, all the boys and all the fiancees came home and we laughed until we were sore. I have to admit to shedding a tear but only after he had driven off. He was so funny when he was leaving, I was waiting in the sitting room and he came in and said very casually, Bye then mum, that's me off to war!
