I know that a lot of people on this forum are anti Vermx (or pro Flubenvet) but I thought I would pass on my recent experience.

We had our first girls over a year ago and since we had them they have had a squirt of apple cider vinegar in their water daily and monthly treatment with Vermx - a full 3 days treatment starting on the first day of the month.

They have never looked poorly and never shown any signs of worms but I panicked recently when reading the various posts thinking I was doing the wrong thing so treated them with Flubenvet for 7 days.

There was no sign at all of any worms so i can only think that what we have been doing up to now has prevented any outbreak.

Perhaps it depends if they are alreay infected with worms from the breeder? Presumably Vermx would not have treated an existing infestation but it certainly seems to have stopped any appearing.

We are going to keep on with the monthly Vermx and use Flebenvet every 4-6 months as it has worked for us

I had my girls on VermX at great expense and for considerable time. I found it to be less than useless as they became infested.

I treated them with Flubenvet and the clear out was as specacular as the one described here.

I worm them reglularly now with Flubenvet and couldn't, with hand on heart, recommend VermX to anyone.

[abwsco]

OMG, that is a massive expulsion Mine are currently on ACV everyday. Was also told that carrot peelings help prevent them as well I will continue to Flub though to be on the safe side.

[Sammy]

It seems to be improving - just 2 poos today with just 1 worm in each.

I'm just wondering though, tomorrow is day 5 of the Flubenvet treatment. If I reach day 7 and still spot a worm, what do I do then? Do I re-treat or is it likely all worms will have made their way out by then?

[Egluntyne]

The recommended course is seven days so strictly speaking, you should stop then. You can repeat in 3 weeks if there still seems to be a problem. Unlikely though.

[eggalp]

i use flub about every six months. Would you advise to use it more often - say, every three?

[Egluntyne]

I use it every 3 to 4 months as my hens range over the same piece of ground. If you have enough land that you can move them about and rest the land for three months, you can worm them less frequently.

Update: Day 5 of Flubenvet

Let the girls out this morning and cleaned out the mess in their house - still a couple of poos containing a worm, this time from opposite ends of the perch, so looking like more than one of my girls has them, although pretty convinced the big explosion was from Horlicks.

Just hope I see no more over the course of the next 2 days - given its a 7 day course I would expect not to be seeing any towards the latter part of the treatment?

Just crossed bean sprouts off my shopping list.

I have never seen worms like that before!!

Yes it was a bit of a shock to me too!

[The Dogmother]

To help prevent reinfestation (nothing will totally stop it) it is important to treat the earth too - I regularly clear the litter out of my run, mix up some Stalosan or Bio-Dri with garden lime and sprinkle it in the run before putting down new litter. Keeping the run dry is also a big help.

as Redwind said previously

OMG!!!!

I was trying to source Marriages pre-flubevented pellets but i think i will suffer the weighing and the mixing after those pictures as my lot are being wormed NOW!!!

[Sammy]

Well at least, if nothing else, I can say my experience has spurred a major Flubenvet treatment across the Omlet members

I wonder if I could get shares or a discount from stockists? !!!!

I've certainly learnt alot through the experience and all the great advice.

[Ain't Nobody Here]

Noodles for tea tonight, anyone ?

[tillymintlin]

I am new to keeping chickens. I have had my 5 ladies for 4months.

Recently i found what i think are worms in some poo.

I have treated them with Verm-X liquid but they still have them.

This is a picture i found on the internet but my chickens have the same.

Can anyone help?

[Chucky Mama]

I have sent you a pm

[The Dogmother]

Welcome tillymintlin

As you will read from further back in this thread, and other threads on the forum; lots of members have tried Verm-X products in the past and found them to be ineffective. May I suggest that you dose with Flubenvet?

[Sammy]

Update:

Day 6 of the Flubenvet and all is looking good. No sign of any worms today and I got an extra egg today.

My Flubenvet also arrived today via Courier so I'm stocked up now ready to re-treat in 3 weeks time.

[sandyhas3chucks]

Well 6 days on and I have just read from start to hear.

I feel

I too had not seen worms but after reading hear did anyway mine looked like spagetti, I thought that was bad but yours eeeeeeeewwwwwww.

I have had about 4 girls poos tested for answers and none have had worms so guess the regular Flub does it's work.

I have a long garden (narrow) and have systematcally used Stalofan over the whole lot.

The grass looks odd for a while but it doesn't seem to have killed any plants .

I hope tht helps, if I was you I would def be doing the garden! cod I did

When you say odd what do you mean?! Just the colour or does it do something to the grass? It's the same grass the girls free-range on, would I need to keep them off? I know Stalosan is fine with the girls but they do obviously have a good old feast on the grass. What do you think?

[sandyhas3chucks]

yes, just the colour, rains through eventualy, not too long though where I have dog made bald patches it is still a bit pinky!

Update:

Day 7.... NO WORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Egluntyne]

Marvellous.

[Sammy]

Update:

Day 8 - Flubenvet all finished yesterday and no more worms. Eggs have also gone back up from 3/4 to 5 which is good news and all the girls seem fine.

I have diarised to re-worm in 3 weeks due to the heavy burden Horlicks had.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, advice and support - I was panic stricken for a while there.

Have to say it's put me right of food - certainly anything resembling pasta or chinese

[KittyFlash]

Just read all this with great interest.... and horror...

My husband saw a worm today in a poo so I immediately ran to the shops for de-wormer.

The only one they had was Verm X and it wasn't cheap. Now I wish I'd never bothered after reading your comments. I will definitely get some Flubenvet now.

Glad to see a happy end result for Sammy!
