Question about Flubenvet

Recommended Posts

We have had our girls for 6 weeks now and love every minute of it (although I am now completely obsessed with them, and just chickens in general), but I think I should worm them now.

I haven't seen any worms in their poo, but I thought prevention is better than cure. The thing is, what do I use to worm them? I am thinking Flubenvet, but there are different strengths and it's confusing...

Having read lots on the internet, I think I am going to go with the 1% - can I ask please, does anyone else use this and is it the right thing to use for 2 chooks? Doseage is going to be another minefield, but I am sure I can work it out..?

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but we just want to do the right thing by the ladies.

ive just ordered some flubenvet online from 'animal medicines' £12 with free 48 hr delivery! :D

its suppose to be really good. as far as im aware you just mix so much with so many kg of food and feed ad lib for 7 days- bigger hens eat more so get more wormer.

unless they have a chronic worm problem you wont see them in their poo, only once you worm them and they get flushed out you might see them.

hope ive helped x

Hi, you get a scoop in the tub and you mix one scoop with 2Kg feed and give it for a week. You should try and avoid treats to get them to eat more of it.

To mix the flubenvet with the feed I put a bit of cod liver oil in the pellets and give it a really good stir then add the flubenvet and keep stirring. You can mix some more if you run out, but if there is any left throw it away after seven days.

Hope this helps :D

Here is the info on the 2.5% that comes in 240g pots

~Category: POM-VPS

~Active ingredient: Flubendazole 2.5%

~Treats: Endo parasites. (Worms).

**Flubenvet is not active against gapeworm and large tapeworm unless the dose is doubled. Not active against small tapeworm.

Egg withdrawal then applies for the course of the treatment and for one week after.

**Strictly speaking, the double dose should only be administered with the permission of a vet.

~Dosage: 5g (approx 1 rounded teaspoonful) per 4kg of feed. This ratio of Flubenvet to feed to be administered over 7 days.

~Egg withdrawal: None if administered at the above rate.

The 1% stuff comes in a 60g tubs and comes with a small scoop with the dosage clear on the packet so you can't go wrong, the 1% is intended for the 'pet chicken' market so the instructions are very clear

If your chickens wont get through the suggested amount of food reduce the weighed food and the doage to suit so if you halve the feed halve the amount of wormer

When mixing the powder mix a small amount of the chicken food with the wormer, you can add a little cod liver oil to make the powder stick, then add the dosed food with a bigger amount of food and so on until the weighed amount of food has been mixed in

Feed for 7 days mixing more as necessary, dispose any left at the end of the 7 days
