BeckyBoo
my father-in-law died last week after a two year battle with cancer. We weren't particularly close, in fact hardly had any contact with him since I split with the ex in January but obviously the children loved him dearly and as such are going to his funeral today. I'm going too, mostly so I can look after my brood, if everyone else is going to be in tears I think they'll find that more upsetting than the funeral itself. And so I will be facing my ex's family, most of them for the first time since the split. I don't suppose for a minute there will be any hostility, today is about Grandad of course, but I'm a bit nervous, it might be a bit awkward. They're having the "wake" such as it is in the local pub afterwards so at least I can sneak off into a corner, and if the weather stays this good I might just disappear into the garden. The girls are showered and clean, clothes all pressed, just got one sticky boy to bath then try and keep him clean until lunchtime, not an easy task! Oh well, onwards, have a good day everyone whatever you're doing, it's gorgeous out there BeckyBoo

bluekarin
Hope it goes well today. Like you say, if it does get a bit tense it is a gorgeous day to be out in a pub garden ((((hugs))))
Valkyrie
Don't worry about not being seen to cry - we didn't at Dad's funeral - we laughed and sang and danced. Although a recent one was more er, traditional, but I didn't cry. I don't think it's compulsory! Lots of luck.

BeckyBoo
Yes thanks, it was fine. I felt a bit stuck in the middle, neither friend nor family so I sat to one side and the children sat with their Dad. He got a bit upset which upset one of mine but sadness is normal when someone dies, I don't want mine afraid of death or grieving, it's part of life - lets face it, it's the only thing I can guarantee that you, me, and everyone else will ALL be doing! And then in the pub afterwards it was much better, I spoke to all his family which was fine and quite nice after all this time, he and I got on fine and I drank altogether more wine than was good for me. BUT I didn't do anything awful, embarrassing or that needed an apology, the children and I went home and today I went to work with a thick head and a reminder as to why I don't drink very often! So, could have been a lot worse. BeckyBoo
mac
Well done for today, a strong move attending. Its not an easy thing to do with 'ex' parties etc. I am fairly brave but the prospect of attending anything to do with the ex fills me with dread. Good luck to you all, Regards, Mac
