Ness3103
i've seen on here that people give their chooks yogurt and i was wondering what type of yogurt it was tia is still laying a softie every day (since july ) and i was wondering if it might help. she has grit available all day, pellets, poultry spice, limestone powder, cod liver oil and crushed eggshells and she's been wormed, but no improvement. she's a happy little girl and seems healthy other than the softies and it's causing an issue with the other girls. every evening between 6 and 7 she starts looking like she's going to lay her softie, the other girls harass her and now they don't wait til it falls out they were pecking at her vent until it bled i managed to rescue her and spray her with purple spray but had to shut her in the eglu until she'd laid her softie because they were relentless. so now i'm having to patrol the run armed with a water pistol until she's laid the other 3 are laying beautiful eggs with nice hard shells so not sure what her problem is
Egluntyne
Live probiotic yoghurt is recommended.
legend21
When mine are laying a softie (they sometimes lay them during the night but if obvious during the day)I take her away and put her in the portch with a roosting bar and cat box (no door on it) with bedding, water and little treats, cover the cat box with a blanket. No one ever comes in our front door (porch) so she is left in peace with her treats water and darkness, next day she is good as new and boc bocing at 6am to be let back into the run. No harassment from the other and a little R & R Jackie
Christian
When one of mine had sour crop, I used Natural probiotic yoghurt.

CluckyBucks
You can get small pots of Yeo valley organic prebiotic yoghurt from most supermarkets for around 40p for a small pot (about the size of an activia) Mine love it xx xx
coco
I give my girls the Yeo Valley organic yoghurt. I put in in a plastic dish for them,at first they thought I was trying to poison them but now they love it. They do tend to get it all over their faces and walk round wiping their beaks on the grass
hilda-and-evadne
How do you feed chickens yogurt? My maran eats it just as it comes - I put a spoonful in an old plastic container (eg that had had humous from the delicatessen in it). ajayb
I use any natural probiotic and mix it with layers mash or porridge oats or bran and the hens and ducks (and Labradors, if they aren't prevented!) wolf it down. Oh, and I put it in an old enamel pie dish (the kind M&S sell some of their puddings in).
