Ziggy
Hey everyone... I used to be in these forums so much I hardly got any work done, but haven't been around much lately, though I do pop in now and again to catch up on all the news!! I really enjoy seeing and reading about everybody else's pets... so decided it was time I got a bit more forum active again... My only worry now is the ideas I get on here... like noticing the beehive thingy, and thinking oh wow, bees... that'd be nice... Poor hubby will be banning me from the forum if I suggest it... Anyway, just wanted to share lovely news from the Ziggy family zoo, and introduce two new members of the family... Here is one: His name is Pepino... he is an African Pygmy Hedgehog and I totally adore him... he belongs to DD2, and is not quite fully tame yet, though he doesn't roll up into a ball, he lets us pick him up and handle him, and we can manage even without gloves now. He loves nothing more than a few crunchy mealworms and spending ages running around his wheel... And here is the other one : One of these darlings is reserved for us... I will go and visit him in four weeks, when he six weeks old, and go pick him up to bring him home 2 weeks later... I've been wanting a dog all my life, so this is a huge event and I am VERY excited. We are also planning to add three new chooks to our flock once our WIR has been built, hopefully in three or four weeks. So with the five cats, the four bunnies, the rat (who sadly seems to be at the end of his life, and is now roughly 2 and a half years), the three chooks soon-to-be six chooks, the fish, the canaries, the hedgehog and soon the doggy, that’s a lovely big animal family… I love having them all around, and would happily add to the zoo any time. Pity the garden isn’t big enough for pygmy goats, that’d be so lovely too… Friends say I should open a petting zoo!! Have a great day everyone,
chickencam
So cute Am I right in thinking that you have a reasonable litter of your own too? I find 8 chooks a pond full of fish 2 cats, 3 children and a hubby hard enough to cope with.

Ziggy
Thanks everyone... I didn't know about pygmy hedgehogs until quite recently, and just couldn't resist them... they are so unusual and lovely... Sorry, forgot to say the pups are Irish Setters... They are two weeks old on that pic, 4 boys and one girl, one of the boys is for us, and will be named 'Charlie' (the girls' choice - I wasn't sure at first, but for once they all agree on something, it would have been a pity to say no, and now that I'm used to thinking of the pup as Charlie, I actually quite like it). Chickencam, yes you are right, I have quite a litter of my own too, four daughters, but thankfully had them one at a time, not all at once like our puppy's mum. Snowy
Those puppies are adorable! I love Irish Setters - absolutely loopy, but gorgeous! And Charlie is a great name for a dog - my old retriever was a Charlie and it really suited him!
Chucky Mama
Both look adorable, congratulations.
Seagazer
The hedgehog is gorgeous, so pretty and the puppies are so scrummy. My OH absolutely loves them and wanted one before we got Cookie. We tried the rescue centre but they wouldn't let anyone have an Irish Setter that hadn't had one before! Real shame as there were some gorgeous young adult dogs on their website and we have got about 18 years experience of having dogs.

Ziggy
Actually Martin you're partly to 'blame' for us having a hedgehog... If I remember right you posted some pictures once, and it spurted me doing some research as DD2 wanted another pet... She has been handling him every day and he is now so relaxed and lovely... I'd happily have a few more and do some breeding myself... sigh... maybe in a few years time...
Martin B
Ooooops! Sorry. I absolutely love them! Just gave them all some fresh chicken and they go mad for it. They love live mealworms too. Where did you get your hedgie from? Will try and dig up some recent photos tomorrow of the hoglets, they should be ready to go in a week or so... Ziggy
We'd love to see pictures of them... That's the thing with breeding, I don't think I'd ever be able to let any of them go... we'd end up living in hedgehog town! It wasn't easy finding ours, I tried to find breeders but couldn't find any near here. One pet store that has a reptile section once had one, so I went to talk to them, and they no longer stocked them (they're not on the cheap side so I don't think they sell well in a pet store, not many people know about them or how to look after them yet), but they said they could contact the breeder they used to get some from and get one specially for us. I hope you don't mind my asking, but Peppino's nails are a bit on the long side on one foot... do you trim your hedgehog's nails?
coco
Your hedghog is lovely, it sounds like you have a household similar to mine. Some one did ask when I was getting a pig, good idea but I'm banned from geting anymore pets [for now]. I think a Tarantula might be next though. Martin B
I hope you don't mind my asking, but Peppino's nails are a bit on the long side on one foot... do you trim your hedgehog's nails? I haven't done so, as mine seem to be ok. I belive it can be done like with guinea pigs though. Sorry not to be much more help. I am now working in a pet shop part time alongside my M&S job, we have pygmy hedgehogs in stock most of the time, we have sold about 20 this year. People have traveled 100s of miles to collect them. Mad! Martin
