Redwing
I bought two chooks a while back for a decent sum of money, one was a Gold Legbar and one a Wernlas Olive which should lay white and green eggs respectively I went out to collect the eggs earlier and one has laid a brown egg If I am honest on a totally shallow level I am disapointed If I look on the bright side at least I have two lovely healthy hens
Space Chick
I appreciate where you are coming from. I have 4 beautiful, lovely hens from Wernlas. My Barnebar (Peri) is not laying dark brown eggs like she should, and Grace's egg today (Gold Laced Wyandotte) was "less cream" than I anticipated more slightly light brown. On the plus side they are healthy, happy, entertaining and gorgeous and I love them dearly

mostin
I can sympathise Redwing, my Columbine, Carla, decided that she would be in 10% who would lay cream eggs, not green or blue . I love her to bits, but I was a bit gutted when I found the first one I have to admit .

Ain't Nobody Here
That is a shame . I must admit I was hoping for blue from Maisie but I learned to love the green .

My Lavender Araucana was euthanised before she ever laid one of her greeen or blue eggs! What is it about a coloured egg that makes them so appealing? Yellow courgettes, black tomatoes, purple French beans, etc. I haven't updated my signature, but it should include 2 crested legbars - so hopefully green or blue eggs soon-ish. Lewis
I know what you mean, I'd be gutted if mine didn't lay blue or green eggs, but as long as she is laying - hopefully the other will lay the right coloured eggs
Egluntyne
I can understand your disappointment. I like the different coloured eggs for the novelty value and the people to whom I sell or give the eggs really appreciate something different. They love the green and blue and dark brown. I've got my heart set on a white egg layer for next year too. Also, you do pay slightly over the odds for a hen that s supposed to lay coloured eggs. Seagazer
I would be upset too, even though my girls are only brown layers. I have a and or on my wish list and I would be gutted if they laid brown.

I think Carla must know how I feel as when we look at the egg spread sheet every month she is always top or second for number of eggs layed, so I think she really tries to make up for it bless her . My hubby calls her "The Silent Assasin", as unlike some of the other girls , she never makes any egg announcements or is especially greedy, she just gets on with things, but fires them out almost every day . I just wished she liked to be cuddled, but she hates it , another major offence in my household .
