mothernature
My Bluebell has developed some dark spots on her comb and wattle. Ive looked on the forums and internet as best I can but it says the most likely cause is frost bite, its not even cold yet her, let alone frosty. She is eating/drinking/playing/pooping fine and has no other symptoms. Non of the other birds have this. And she didn’t have any scabs or blisters prior to the black dots (Don’t worry about the water on her beak I took this just after she had been having a drink) As you can see her colour is good and ive seen no sign of red mite. I’m really confused as to what it might be, she was getting pecked at the other day when ‘’worm gate’’ happens and they all fight over one worm. Can chickens get bruises? Is this anything to worry about? Edited September 21, 2009 by Guest

Redwing
Hi and welcome I cant see the pic because I am on a work computer but it sounds like bruising to me - the comb will get dark patches if its pecked hard

Groovychook
Hello mothernature! My bluebelle developed dark patches on her comb like yours, a couple of months after we got her. I worried that it was due to frostbite because of the cold weather we'd been having during the winter months but that wouldn't explain your girl's! I seem to remember reading other bluebelle owners saying that some of theirs had patchy combs too. I don't think my girls is down to bruising as she's never been subjected to any bullying behaviour... It's a mystery!
Helly Welly
A couple of my girls have darks spots on their combs, in fact Polly never quite developed a fully red comb and hers stayed quite black for her whole life. I always thought it was just her markings, rather than anything wrong.
chick wiggle
One of my bluebells comb is still partly black, its never gone completely red, I just thought it was her markings too.
Laura & CTB
Cartier has them too - they are perfectly normal markings, the breeder told me not to expect a red comb!
Redwing
Yes Bluebells can have darker pimentation to their combs but the mottling in the first pic looks so specific I still reckon its pecking damage The easy way to tell is....see if it heals! Gamebird
Both my Bluebelles have dark spots on their combs and look very similar to your photo but are otherwise fit and healthy. I wouldn't worry too much unless they have other symptoms.
Egluntyne
It looks like 'bluebelle ' pigmentation to me. One of my bluebelles has similar, the other has a completely grey comb. If it fades, however, you will know that it has been due to a bit of argy bargy.
