baby's UPDATE she's getting better??

Recommended Posts

UPDATE>>>Baby seems to be making a full recovery from what ever was wrong with her, she's back out with the others, eating properly, scratching, chasing the newbies also poo is back to normal.

I still have her test results to come but i'm putting it down to stress maybe of new arrivals??

Anyway she's much better, i'm so pleased i had accepted the other day she may not make it as she wasn't eating. but now she scoffing :D:D

can stress of new chickens in the group cause my ex-bat to be egg bound or stop laying?

she's been quite now for 2 days just stands and sleeps and i dont think she has laid for 2 days since the newbies arrived. she moves around and pecks a little but thats it.

her crop has food in it but not much poo when she goes and looks normal, but she still wants mealworms when i shake the bag.

there are so many illnesses with symptons very similar.

i've done the egg bound thing this evening warm water, hot water bottle in her bed, ive got her in a hutch in the house nice and warm to try and de-stress her. her vent is clean moving like they do not swollen.

am i doing the right thing taking away from the others?

as far as i know she's been eating and drinking. i've just lost one chicken i don't want to loose another just yet she's my favorite. am i just worring to much?

anyone? :(

thanks

she got wormed a few weeks ago. should i do it again?

i've had to put her back with the others this morning i didnt want to keep her apart from muggles the other ex-bat for too long. i will go home on lunch to check up on her make sure shes eating etc see if she's laid.

she was quite vocal when i popped her back in the pen, and interested in what was going on.

she is still not very lively just standing hunched up. :(

i've dipped some grape in wormer and she had some of it but turned the rest away tried to tempt her with mealworm she had them but turned her beak up to corn

but other than that her crop was not that full at all.

saw her poo but it was very small but seemed normal.

no eggs from her.

i just don't know what to do. i just dont want to leave it to long. going to take her to vets i think.

Also forgot to mention i think she might have overdone it a bit on sat she was scratching around while i was moving some old turf and there was loads of earth worms she got some very big ones and had a fare few. could this give her worms?

been to vets, she said she looked healthy and a very good weight, eyes bright and she was quite perky when the vet was poking around vet said and it could be stress of new chickens or picked something up minor off them but we have to monitor poos and weight.

we have been given a vitiman tonic for her 2ml by syringe.

Also been told to contiune with the wormer.

i gave her some treats when we got home she went mad for the brown bread took the whole peice off me and went to run off with it

we put the tonic on a peice of bread and she ate it she has also had a bit of mashed up pellets with porridge oats mixed in some water.

fingers crossed hope she feels a bit better tomorrow.

thanks everyone for advice :) will keep updated on her progress.

i got up this morning and she's not good, not interested in food at all she drank a little water her poo is very watery similar to the photo below. she had more vits had to do it by syringe this time though.

because she's not eating i cant get the wormer into her. vets say they could send the poo off to be looked at cost around £60-£70 i just dont know what to do for her.

shes showing early symptons of how my last chicken fluffy started and she was PTS after 8 days with internal bleeding.

Could this be just a battery hen thing she's probably coming up to 2 years old now i know how intensely reared they are and they aren't breed to last. But I also don't want to give up on her just yet.

i think iwas expecting too much to soon this morning, it hadnt even been 24 hours since vets.

i got home and she had laid an egg??? is that good news if she was really ill would she lay?

she has been eating and drinking and seems slightly more perky still a little quiet but i see a little improvement. still nice and red comb eyes bright vent is clear. i am still waiting for a poo though.

she had a little walk in garden and still found the strenth to chase snowy off?

i was meant to go back to vets at 2:30 with samples etc but i've put it off 24 hours.

does anyone know anything about coccidiosis i read on net it can be quite common in ex-bat hens

http://thepoultrygarden.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=97

and symptons include blood in poo or very watery, loss of appitite and weight loss, no interest, sitting hunched, although some posts do say you cant always see the blood.

because it can be passed from hen to hen i worried if fluffy had it she may have passed it around.

should i treat them for this? i have some Coxiod i got it ages ago when i thought blood was present in poo i never used it. would a drop in her water do her any harm?

she is still being treated for worms only been 24 hours since i started that.

sorry to ramble on.

going to send off her sample still anyway 3-4 days return i think just to be safe.
