Shop refuse to serve me !!

Recommended Posts

Hi..

I recently bought brand new cube and had it delivered with 3 chickens too. So for couple days later i decided to get another chicken and specail foods as well. I called in local supplier to get what i want and they said to me.....What sort chicken house you have got..? I told her I got fab Eglu cube etc. Straight away she told .. "I am not serving you for anything because you bought plastic box!! " I explain it is my choice and chicken health wise." And she saying to me you dont have experience how to look after them, and plastic like oven blah blah... I said straight away "Fine i wont bother buy anything from you or support you if your business or attitude fails...!"

I felt sad about this.....My main reason i bought is the cube is funky bright colour, easy to clean, easy maintains, right size etc...

What is her problem !!

Did you have same experience ????

I have had similar comments yes, most 'traditionalists' seem resigned to Omlet products, some even like them but some of the die hards still object strongly

I bought some Ukadex from a lady who said I had bought the pecking problems in my flock on myself as I have an Eglu, a very respected poultryman calls them 'them pod things' other people have says they are hot in summer and cold in winter

and so it goes on...

Personally I think we should all be united against the really unsuitable poultry houses sold on ebay and the like, the small runs, the warped doors etc..

Everything else there is room for :D

She obviously felt threatened by something new. Luckily the place where we bought our birds was completely the opposite - she said that it was a good product and very safe - she was sure the girls would love their new home. Well your person lost a sale - but there are lots of other places to go. Good luck with the next breeder.

Well...

It all seems a bit sinister to me - i mean i have gone for the traditional chicken wooden coop because the cube was quite expensive and i like the lok of it as im rural - but for someone to get all angry over a egl which tbh must be quite a good investment and not a bad word has been said and its not bad for them and very hygienic too...sme people need to get out more, that women needs to sort herself out!

Im sure everyone would agree

Each to their own I guess. :?:?

The lady I get my feed from was not keen on the eglu, she said it was too small for more than one chicken. I asked her where she had seen one? She hadn't :roll::roll: She has since been to visit me and loves the eglus as they 'are much larger than I thought, sooooo easy to clean and no crevices for red mite'!!

Some people are small minded and refuse to see that sometimes they aren't always right. She has lost herself a few sales by the sound of it.

She owns business and also she walks away from me into her house instead tell me off site ...very rude..

I did tell her...

Wooden shed:

Rot quicker

Staining smell.

Wood turn warps

Poor hygiene e.g mites, rats etc

Lack of insulation or heating..

Omlet Cube and Eglu:

Normal wear and tear but tough materials..

Warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

I am hunting for local supplier now only i found was Home for pet shop in Gloucester sell little chickens stock...

Regards..

Hi

Ignore them!! We experienced a similar attitude too when we purchased our first hens. After we mentioned that we had bought an Eglu, the “breeder” told us that our hens would be dead in 6 months. Immediately I offered her the hens straight back, but she didn’t want them - guage from that what you will ... Well, 3 years later our hens are doing just fine (touch wood!). By the way, the wooden coops the “breeder” was selling were expensive and leaking – I know which type I prefer! Vote with your cash – it’s their loss, not yours.

Enjoy your eggs!

We have one of those type of breeders/shop near us, trouble is the owner is actually very knowledgeable about chooks....just arrogant about housing..........the ones he sells look big enough for a sparrow  and cost a bomb :x !! Strangely enough I don't go there anymore, I'd rather come on here for advice and give my money to a new business which is willing to help the customer :D

I haven't used any of these breeders myself though so can't speak from experience with them. They may have supplies as well so it's worth giving them a call to see if they stock feed etc.

Hi,

I'm near Gloucester - can you PM me the company so I can make a special point of NOT going there for anything!!

I tend to not mention my Cube unless asked directly I just tell them I have a coupe that will house upto 10 chickens dependant on run size/free ranging. I got tired of defending my decision and don't see why I should.

The list above I have all heard good things about, a friend of mine got most of his chooks from Nibley Birds and has had no issues - good healthy birds and helpful supportive staff.

I actually use FlyteSoFancy.co.uk for supplies as I find it convenient to get stuff delivered and Countrywide do a decent range and also have a notice board up which usually has ads for various poultry from local farms etc and small scale operations.

Also if you can wait - Frampton Country Fair is also a good place to see and view breeds of poultry and some will also sell (though not on the day). Its run every Sept in Frampton so you've missed it this year but just for future reference.

:)

I find it so strange how many people still have those attitudes, even though it's very clear that the Omlet brand and eglu products are very successful and they boost trade for them too, never mind.

The guy we buy our hens from quite likes them, probably because it's got more people interested in hen keeping and supplements his builder income! :D

I'm not sure how far it is from you but Cotswold Chickens on Barbara's list is very good, they sell chickens and just about everything you need for them too, they also have lots of customers with Eglus and cubes and have no problem with them whatsoever. Its a lovely place :D

Hi

I live in Cheltenham so not far from you, I got my chickens from Poultry Park at Newent and they were quite happy for them to be kept in a cube, they were very helpful so I would recommend them. I have also bought quite a few things from Cotswold Chickens near Banbury with no problems at all and they have a cube and an Eglu there on display.
