Why go broody now..?

Recommended Posts

Could somebody please explain why Blossom, my buff Pekin, after about 2 1/2 weeks of laying, has decided to go broody, complete with her cussing & swearing pancake impression  ......has she not noticed it's getting colder & therefore not so nice to bring chickies into the world......... :wall: . It's taken DD 3 days to pluck up the courage to go near her when she's in the nestbox as she was scared of being pecked  , tonight she gave Bloss a stern talking to, then evicted her!!

Last night I barricaded the nestbox entrance with a slate & plant pot to keep her out.........5mins later DD calls out "mum, did you put Bloss out before you put the slate in........."..........err yes, am I daft or what............no the little minx had got in there over the divider & snuggled down in her favourite corner  ...tonight, we have a piece of chicken wire to stop them

I've shut her out of the (cube red) for all but about an hour in the afternoon as that's when she's been laying, but no eggs for 2 days now :( , what's the betting the 3 Bitzas start to lay whilst she's playing silly beggars :? ?!

She's fine when she's out in the run & eats & drinks & terrorises the others as normal....she's just a bit more vocal about it than usual  Over the weekend I'm around more, so she may get dunked, I may just see if she snaps out of it herself.

One of mine was broody the other week, all mine have finished laying by 2pm so on the sat and sun the door was closed ant she was locked out, this seemed to do the trick as she snapped out of it, it was luckily when we had a really cold weekend as well! she was broody for 2 weeks in total but i just stuck with throwing her out when i could then for whole afternoons/evenings on a weekend! I still have no eggs from her though! oh i also gave the others a few more treats outside that normal which she still came running out for so think she also realised that you dont get treats in the house! :?

Hope she does snap out of it for you!

yes, one of my original pepperpots is STILL broody - she has been for weeks, I've given up putting her in the rabbit hutch because about two days after she snaps out of it she goes right back to it :wall: I just kick her out two or three times a day to make sure she's eating and drinking and she curses and swears, shouts her mouth off then goes for some food, gives me filthy looks whilst she's having a drink then stomps back to the nest like a stroppy teenager returning to it's bedroom! I swear if she could slam a door behind her she would!
