CrazyDaizy
Hia Folks We've just got the normal Chicken run with extension. I was thinking of putting a perch in there, maybe using a tree branch or something.... What's the best tree branch to use? Or maybe I could just use garden canes?? And I like the idea of hanging CDs in there to keep the chooks amused!!
Plum
Canes aren't really wide enough. Logs are great, they often have insects in as well that they love if they are not terrified of the log. I have to put corn on one to get mine to go near it. They like perching on flowerpots. I bought the side of a shelving unit from Ikea and turned it into a perch. Unfortunately I also sat on it and broke it. You could just buy a bit of timber about 1 1/2 - 2" wide and use ties to tie it to the bars. Some people have used ikea shoe racks. I have an ikea step stool but don't think it would fit the eglu run. I go round everywhere now thinking 'ooh the bottom of that antique chair, or that rack at the garden centre would make a good perch'
poachedegg
We have a cube, so don't know if it would work the same - we use wooden broom handles.
coco
We cut a branch off our Apple Tree.
Chicken Shirl
Ours like large stones and we have some drift wood that we found on the beach. Anything that they can fly up on works. Plant pots turned upside down as Plum suggested are great. Two stones with a plank across works well. Hope you find something.
CrazyDaizy
Hey, plant pots is a good idea We have cut down a Hypericum bush, and wondered if the bare branches of that would be any good? Is Hypericum ok if they want to peck at it?
docsquid
Well, if you're really stuck, we own a wood and have masses of branches and logs and stuff for use as a perch. You aren't that far away. You could come and choose something for them if you like

Gelbel
We used an old shower curtain pole and ordinary curtain pole. Again, up turned plant pots are a favourite.

docsquid
Here we have:Logs - scary murdering logs apparently - chooks won`t go anywhere near We just went to the woods today and brought back a nice log that is very twisted so has lots of different up and down bits. At first they all congregated as far away from it as possible in as small a space as three chickens can get into. Then I brought out the chicky treat box , and spread some on the log. Before long, Gwennie was sitting on it! I've wedged some corn in little undulations in the bark, so they can figure out how to get it out. speckled hen
My hubby made one from an old pallet, he also attached a log and the cube ladder as they have a ramp for the cube. They seem to like it. They also love upturned wire hanging baskets
