We have used felt, I know this can be a nice redmite bed, but looking at lots of designs, felt has been used so we figured with regular treatment, it was worth a go. If anyone has had some bad experiences with felt roofs, I would appreciate a comment as it is easily changed at this point.

The (cube purple) will be either outsideto the right of the run or inside at the back.

We have a huge felt roof on our run and have never had any problems with red mite, etc. I give it the odd spray but as I understand it, the problems with red mite mainly occur in felted rooves where they are on an enclosed, warmish shed or chicken house. When the runs are open, they should be ok. As I say, I have never seen anything. We are having a second run built next year and that's also having a felt roof. One of the big advantages is that no matter how hot the weather is, your girls will be cool under a felt roof. Some people had overheating problems with plastic rooves. Your apex roof will also be good for drainpipes and a water butt. I have done this and it is really handy having the water so close to the run.

You're right about felt roofing being much more of a problem on the actual house itself. My only concern is from other threads on here where the recommendation is to spray the wood on their WIR for red mite. Now if red mite do indeed inhabit the wood on a WIR, they will also make the most of the gaps between the felt and the wood - unless it is 100% glued down. There are alternatives, such as corruline or onduline, and you'll find that most poultry house makers use these. My personal preference is no felt roofing anywhere near my chickens, but we're all different. :)
