lauragale
Hi there, I really need to fit a bumper bit on my naughty Pepperpot. I tried for over an hour last night with no joy. It just seems impossible! I had her wrapped tightly in a towel and held down by my boyfriend. I could just about get it in her beak, but there was no way i could open up the prongs far enough to fit in her nostrils. Any advice, or assistance (Moseley, Birmingham) would be gratefully received. Ain't Nobody Here
Here's an FAQ about them . I remember reading too that circlip pliers (available from Halfords apparently) make it a lot easier to fit (as does soaking the bit in hot water prior to fitting). Egluntyne
Straight circlip pliers really do make it a quick and simple job. Ask around - someone is likely to have a pair in their tool kit.
lauragale
Operation Bumper Bit - Done! One to hold the chicken in the towel, one to hold her head still and open her beak, one to operate the pliers and insert the bumper bit - phew! She's now even grumpier than before - and still chasing the others round the run. Hopefully they'll soon realise that her, erm, bark is worse than her bite... Could not have done it without the pliers - thanks for the advice. x
Egluntyne
Am pleased that it worked. She will forget that it is there in a short while.
cluckingmad
glad I read this - we tried to bumper bit ourgirls a few weeks back - Mollie had hers off in a matter of moments, so we're trying again this week-end, but only with Esme (who seems to be the problem feather plucker - she's the only one with a nice full tail!).. we worried that we'd put it on incorrectly, however we tried again with Mollie and just watched in amazement as the little Madam very purposefully inserted her talons into one side of the bit and just yanked at it till it came out Hurt her nostril doign it, so decided to leave her be at that point
