TOMWARDFARM
After taking my dining room ceiling down the other day with dust and plaster everywhere we discovered that our 5yr old Dyson had take the opportunity to give up the ghost. Not keen on Dyson as we thought it was quite rubbish was seeing what your opinions on what good vacuums are on the market?
Mrs Frugal
I have a Miele Cat and Dog cylinder vacuum and it's fab. I loved it so much that I recommended it to my Mum who loves hers and is recommending it to all her friends too. It gets everything up off carpets, tiles or wooden floors with ease. TOMWARDFARM
The Miele Cat and Dog certainly seems to be a firm favourite on the net. But again has mixed reviews.
Mrs Frugal
I've got through rather a lot of vacuums over the years from Dysons (hated it !) to Vax, Electrolux and Panasonic and the Miele is definitely the best of the bunch as far as I'm concerned . Cinnamon
I have a Sebo, as recommended by John Lewis & it is brilliant
dippy bird
After my 2nd Dyson just totally died on me,I decided I didn't want another as I never really rated it anyway. I have just bought a vax and it's great-plus I got it for less than £100 when it should have been closer to £200.Bargain! The hose is great as it's really long, ideal for the staircase. And the suction is really strong. Good luck with whichever you choose. bluekarin
I have a lovely yellow Miele Its not brilliant on hair (human or animal) but it almost lifts the carpet up when its on full power I love it though. My mum has a Sebo and she loves that. I used it a couple of weeks ago and it is very good. I prefer my one as its a cylinder and very easy to move about. chickric
We replaced our Dyson with a Vax Mach 6. Very good and with a 6 year guarantee as standard but quite heavy.
ClaireG
I'm also a Miele cat and dog fan
Old Speckled Hen
I have had a Sebo upright for 16 years and it's still going strong. Also from John Lewis. I remember the lovely salesman let me try all their cleaners and it was a hoot as we both pushed them about the store. The bags are expensive from John Lewis but are about quarter of the price online. I have an Animal Dyson for our daytime living floor which does the job of clearing up after two dogs and a cat but it is heavy, unwieldy, using just the hose sucks and I hate it!!!! I have to use it though as hubby said it was a waste of time getting it as my old vacuum cleaner was so good but I had to have it, silly me. He was right but I'm not letting him know that
chelsea
If you have pets (especially a shedding dog) nothing sucks up pet hair like a Dyson - believe me my GSD sheds 365 days a year! I don't really like my Dyson (very heavy) but as I have used many brands, the Dyson has a superior suction.
abwsco
Miele! Mine is at least 15 years old and still like new
Willow
Plaster dust plays havoc with the dyson filter according to our nice vacumn cleaner repair man We have a pet hair, serious allergy filters dyson for general and a Henry for renovating. I wouldn't use the Henry for every day as its filters are virtually non-existent but it is superb for cleaning up building rubble, garage etc. The dyson is good but needs specialist cleaning of filters too much for my liking. (must take it in again sigh)

I've had mine 2 years and have done nowt save emptying it. Should I look at the filter
Cinnamon
Sebos are the only brand where you can remove & replace ALL the filters with new ones - they recommend once a year. I love my cylinder one

(must take it in again sigh) Does it? I've had mine 2 years and have done nowt save emptying it. Should I look at the filter If it's sucking fine don't worry but if it's lost suction it's probably the filter. There's the spongy filter that you can access that needs regular washing but there's also a filter inside the middle drum that gets blocked as well particularly with fine dust like plaster dust. Omletina Kyckling
I asked a similar question a few months ago about vacuum cleaners as I'd borrowed a friend's Dyson and been impressed by it. I have a 15 year old Miele White Pearl cylinder cleaner and in the end I bought a turbobrush directly from Miele from it (same head as on the Cat and Dog models) and it is absolutely superb! I'm pleased I stuck with my Miele and didn't get a Dyson in the end!!
henriette
We have a Dyson, which I find useless for the dog/cat hair on the carpet, but great for the floors. We also have a Miele Cat and Dog which is amazingly good for gathering all the animal hair. The bags are expensive though which is why we use the Dyson as well
Guest
Hi Had 3 Dysons the only one that lasted a good time was the first original type. Now after lots of vacuums have a Miele I get the original proper miele bags for it off ebay site(it was cheaper to get them from channel islands and despite postal strike arrived 2 days later)! Love the Miele well worth it(I would probably be on my third vacuum now..famous last words) indie

Cinnamon
Not every single one - they can all be taken out (4 of them) & replaced - at the time of buying,Sebo was the only one that did this
abwsco
Will it have more than two in then I know when I bought it, Miele were the make recommended for excellent dust pickup and filter properties. Anyway, it reminds me I need to change the filters
Lavenders_Blue
Another Sebo fan here. I've been really pleased with mine, it sucks up dirt like "Ooops, word censored!"ody's business and if they ever go wrong, then you're incredibly unlucky. The chap in my local electrical repair shop reckons that if everyone had a Sebo he would soon be out of business, fortunately for him lots of people are still buying Dysons!
