occupational therapy

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I am thinking about what I what to do when I leave school. I have thought very hard, and come to the conclusion that what I would really love to do is become an occupational therapist. However, what I would really love to do more than anything is become an occupational therapist in the army, helping soldiers, but I have looked on the army website, and occupational therapy isn't a job on there!! I know that occupational therapists work in the army, but I don't know where to find it! Can anyone help me?? If anyone is or has any experience of occupational therapy, I would be very grateful for your thoughts!! :D

Thanks guys

xx

My sister is a pediatric OT and works for various local authorities in Reading. She trained at Liverpool University and loved it.

There is a trade association - The British Association of Occupational Therapists and College of Occupational Therapists and I am told their journal (BJOT) is good too. I'm sure they could tell you more about working in the army.

Hi Kitbag, one of my children had occupational therapy for a couple of years here in Bracknell, at a local medical centre. The therapists weren't based there but would come for a specified day and I think they came in from Reading/Wokingham and they often had trainees accompanying them. Not sure but I have a feeling they came from Royal Berks Hospital - might be worth trying them.

By the way my daughter, who I think is the same age as you, wants to be a doctor and she likes the look of Southampton for training too.

Must say as well that the work they did with my son was splendid, we were very grateful and I think it must be a very rewarding career.

why not contact the army careers office - if they don't know they will find out for you. I guess you would end up joining the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) as that is who Physio's belong too. You would be a professionally qualified officer or soldier and I suspect they are recruiting!! Contact them now and they might even fund you trhough Uni.
