Seagazer
Cookie was a bit quiet during the early part of the evening but then at about 9 she started doing an odd swallowing thing. We tried to get her to let us look in her mouth but she was having none of it. After a while it didn't seem to be getting any better so we ended up at the emergency vets. She needed to have a general anaesthetic and an endoscopy to have a look. Apparently there was nothing stuck down there which is a relief but she has a very inflamed throat. £452 pounds later for a sore throat . But I do love my dog and thank god for pet insurance Its my fault really as I only said to my OH the other day that she hadn't been to the vets for a long time. I didn't touch wood at the time She's looking a bit sorry for herself this morning but has just eaten her breakfast with medicine in it with a bit of gravy to disguise the taste. Sunshine
I hope she feels better soon Is it just a virus thing, do they know why she got it? Lola was really sleepy after her op to get her spayed but i was amazed at how qucikly she was back to her usual self.
Seagazer
They seem to think its laryngitis (sp?) sort of thing. She was perfectly fine during the day, we were worried that she might have eaten something she shouldn't have done. She is a dreadful scavenger. The kids are warned not to put anything into waste paper bins but you never know. She's got her head stuck out of the cat flap at the moment so hopefully will be getting lots of fresh air

Ziggy
Poor Cookie, glad it was nothing stuck in her throat... As Snowy said, that was one expensive sore throat... good thing it doesn't cost that every time the kids get one!!

Olly
Poor her ... why is it they always develop these things out of hours when there's a premium charge! Glad it's nothing serious.
ClaireG
Loving the pic of her with her head out the cat flap Hope she's better soon and doesn't have to take anymore late night trips to the vets.
Aunty e
Ah yes , like the upset stomach that cost us £1k because she started throwing up blood at one in the morning. She was insured, but essentially they just monitored her. Sigh.
Seagazer
Yikes Aunty E thats rather a lot of money! It was £130 just for the consultation and that would have been £150 if we had got there 10 minutes later! I just don't know how people manage without insurance, we've just checked her policy as I was looking at my dog magazine and they were talking about whole life policies. We don't appear to have that so I think I will start looking around for new insurance. Not that this is anything that will be a problem but whilst she's still young and doesn't have much wrong *touches wood this time* with her. Ain't Nobody Here
Very glad to hear she's OK . What a bill though . Our bill for Riley for a dislocated hip and 9 days cage rest at the vets was only £136 .
chick wiggle
Flippin' eck, thats a huge difference in bills and treatment, i wonder sometimes how they justify their charges
Seagazer
Doesn't seem right does it? How can they vary so much. I suppose for one thing it was out of hours and a different vet to our own, actually a PDSA unit which seems to make its money from us 'private' patients. I don't know. I shouldn't moan really as I would have hated anything to have happened to her but I do sometimes think that we get ripped off. Perhaps our are more expensive because we are in the so called affluent south. The fact that my OH has been made redundant obviously doesn't come into it. Sorry little tired rant over. Lesley
A bit like the £300 we had to spend on a poorly sheep - not covered by insurance - she lost two lambs and we now can't breed from her. She was supposed to go off as Mutton when the lambs went but we couldn't catch her.....clever sheep - so we're stuck with another expensive 'lawnmower' I'd love a photo of Cookie from the other side as well now
