Do you own an Idiot Hound?

Recommended Posts

In a discussion with friends on what defines a lurcher, we decided that they like to run around very fast, sleep a lot, steal stuff and generally look adorable.

One friend defined his as an Idiot Hound....

The 'Idiothound'

Idiothounds have great sight but still crash into you when running at full pelt.

Idiothounds have great hearing until something else grabs their attention and they then go deaf.

Idiothounds get clobbered by the cat but insist on going back for more.

Idiothounds will 'mock squat' in the garden when its raining so they can get back in the house asap...........and then pee in the kitchen.

I could go on but I imagine many of you own Idiothounds and you never even knew it.

Ruby wouldn't dare piddle indoors though!

I just love watching greyhounds/lurchers/whippets run....when we were at the beach the weekend there were loads of daft doggies going a bit mental - I think it was the windy weather....but they loved it, they would run away from their owners and do a funny shake all over and then run back full pelt, ears firmly down with a big grin. :D:D

My terrier is crazy, he regularly shoots doen the stairs (usually after getting clouted by one of the cats) only not to make the turn at the bottom and comes crashing in to the room on his side after bouncing off the front door

he also mock squats

he also torments the cats constantly and is always getting in to trouble

He also burnt his nose on a candle, stuck it in his water bowl then went back and sniffed the candle again

he also leans against the back door and falls in to the kitchen when you open the door

he goes outside in the back garden on a horses lunge rein as we have no fences and he constantly gets tangled in everything and anything OR he runs to the end of it so fast he does a back flip

I despair

I have an idiot terrier too, he's six years old, going on six months. He's such a child, has no control over his legs and adores his toys. He watches TV, his favourites being cartoons and the BBC Hippo trailer. As soon as anything attracts his attention on the box, he legs it outside trying to find whatever it was he just saw. He has bats for paws and he knows how to use them. He spends hours mousing outside, then when he finds one, he bats it and looks sad when it won't run any more. Watching him chasing gulls at the beach is hysterical, until he starts running out to sea and I have to go in after him. I love him really. :D

*Puts hand up enthusiastically* Me! Me! I have an idiot hound!!

He's 14, but still....

... crashes into things whilst running at full pelt (his eyesight is going now, but he's been doing it for 14 years  )

... has convenient deafness if he doesn't want to come in from the garden and is being called (unless you ask him goes he want to go down his grandparents and then he's in like a shot)

... gets clobbered by the cat.... constantly.... but then continues to lick the cat

... mock squats, however I am wise to his ways and have learnt the difference between a fake and real, so he does not get in through the back door unless its a real one :shameonu:

However, I love him more than most people and he brightens every day :D

Can I nominate Zeus?

He will take on an innocent delivery man to defend my honour but is scared of cushions and curtains.

He weighs 42 kg and stands on his hind legs as tall as me but tries to sit on my lap.

The Pygmy Goats gang up on him and snigger when he runs to me for comfort.

When our StaffieX Whippet makes a kill he wont go near it.

He lives on a farm and is allergic to grass and trees.

He sleeps on his back, legs in the air.

If the Lloyds Bank advert or the Simpsons theme comes on the TV he sings along.

He is so lovable and the most faithful hound I've ever had but boy is he a bonehead

 I love all those...

Ruby is 15 months old now and starting to settle a bit more now (it's a long journey with lurchers  )

She is part Saluki, so very willful and deaf as a post when she wants to be, yet still hears me preparing her dinner from the other end of the garden.

She will (still  ) chase the cats, but turns and flees when Biscuit bops her one.

Daft as a brush and loving as anything, she will bomb up to my friends and greet them all waggily, but doesn't like hoodies after one attacked me and she leaped (literally) to my defence.

She steals, raids bin and pockets, rolls in fox poo and rotten fish...

.... but I love her to bits and wouldn't be without her, especially when she tries to fold her long bambi legs into my lap

That bit made me laugh. My elderly GSD used to do that sometimes.

My Idiot hound has licked a hole in her leg where she was shaved to have a drip last week (following the chocolate binge). If she is not careful she will have to wear the 'cone of shame' - did anyone see 'UP' - thought it was great.

We saw that - took Rosie to see it in 3D in Oxford, was prepared to hate it and loved every minute

Funny incident in the park this evening (I don't take her on countryside walks in the dark), some hoody youths were taunting her and throwing chips at her so I called her back, even though she wasn't being threatening to them, but was just herding them away from me.

"Does it bite?" one hoody asked

"Only if I tell her to" I replied

Never seen them move so fast :lol::lol:

.... me and the hound looked smug

I have an idiot hound too!

Her speciallity is to run at full pelt whilst looking behind her.... often knocks me for six :?

She says 'hellooooooooooooyoooooooo' in a chewbacca voice sometimes which is hilarious.

She sits in front of the fire (has a glass screen) and remains there even though her fur starts to frizzle

I had two idiot hounds but now down to my 11 year old terrier ( thinks she is a cat ) sleeps more than my cat does , very lazy and hates rain

the late hound would dash around to pick up a sock , a bra or pants to answer the door

she would also nest , every so often I had to clear it out from under my bed

if it was lost then 9 times out of 10 that's where it would be
