Lesley
I have another photo somewhere - the rabbits winter quarters - near the house - and a lot of red wine bottles awaiting recycling. Carl says the rabbits have a drink problem
Lesley
This is supposed to be our new fruit and veggie plot in the Spring
Christian
Poor you Lesley! We moved into our house in May last year and I still have to get the veg patch sorted! It looks quite somilar to yours at the mo
Lesley
We moved here on 1st May, but we can't live without our own veggies. We made a temporary veggie plot and grew loads last year. Railway sleepers and 10 tons of topsoil delivered the day we completed It was too far away from the house though so we're making the new one just outside the back door. We have had 30 tons of soil dumped ready for this one. It is like a swimming pool now though.

We've named so many hens now that we've run out of names. SarahJo was always very good at this - hope you're around Sarah! Two are black Two are white Two are white with black faces (called brown apparently ) ....and - we also need a new name for Lottie2 - he started to crow today He is a Cuckoo Marans - looks like a Speckledy. Guest
The 2 black ones: Coal and Minstrel The 2 white ones: Casper and Snowy The 2 black faced ones: Smudge and Spot..... I'm rubbish at naming things - remember I'm the girl with a pair of cockatiels called Mr and Mrs Birdie......

Thank you! and thank you as well Martin, I shall be waiting to see how many names are put forward Don't forget poor Lottie - Jake will be heartbroken, he's waiting for 'her' to lay 'her' first egg
Louise
They are Shetland sheep aren't they Lesley Why not name them after some of the Islands Why not call Lottie 2 Doodles as in Cock a doodle doo Its okay I am going home now
Guest
Perhaps you should re-christen Lottie "Lottieman"? Or "Fred" is always a good back-up....
Lesley
Kate calls her chicken 'Fred' - you know, the ones she eats I quite like Doodles - thanks Louise, I will write it down ready for Jake to choose, it's his hen er... cockerel I like the Scottish Islands theme as well - off to look at the map........ I think we will stick with the Scottish Islands - I'm compiling a list. The Shetland Isles don't have very inspiring names but the others are beautiful. AnnieP
Great idea! You can call one "Egg"!
fourfinches
One of the islands in Orkney is called "lamb holm" or there's barra or the Isle of Ewe ! I thought Scottish islands would make great names for our chickens but the boys objected. Stroma, Iona, Staffa, Skye, Rona, Cramond, Harris, Raasay, Rum, Tiree, Seil, Shuna, Fidra, Islay, Jura, Gigha, Arran, Ailsa (Craig) I also suggested lochs, mountains and malt whisky names but they didn't think much of that either - they are fickle. SarahJo
I'm touched that you think I am good at names Lesley. I like the islands theme ... I used to see Ailsa every day when I lived in Ayr. . Will have a think of some others and get back to you.
Lesley
Hi Sarah - nice to see you around. We've made a decision now - using a bit of poetic licence I also trawled through a Scottish names site.Only one of the names is directly linked to a particular sheep, and that is ....... Ciara - which means Little dark one The others are... Skye Isla (without the 'y') Iona Shuna and....... Ffion - which apparently means Wine I couldn't find a name meaning 'Homebrew' so wine will have to do We will name the other black sheep Ffion - as in Red Wine I will be seeing Jake this afternoon - and we'll sort out the cockerel's name - his last choice of names for hens were Ploppy and Burger - goodness knows what the poor cockerel will end up being called! Lesley
We've got lots of mud to see at the moment I had a phone call from the Veterinary Officer from DEFRA last night. He is coming to see us next Monday to talk to us about all their forms It feels like waiting for a VAT Inspection Luckily, I registered us as hen keepers when we moved in - although I did mention just a couple It's all those chicks we hatched in summer which have taken numbers up to the 50 mark so quickly
Louise
Glad you liked the suggestion for the sheep Lovely choices too Poor Cockerel I wonder what he will end up with The DEFRA vet inspection will be fine they want you to get it right so they are very helpful Good luck
SarahJo
Good names Lesley ..... I was going to suggest - Rum and Raisin Peach and Melba Choc and chip For some reason I have returned from walking Tori, in the rain, dreaming of ice-cream sundaes . And NO I am not expecting a 3rd baby . Ffion sounds like my favourite ... can't think why
