Ginfiend
I've had my ladies for 4 days now...and as a bit of a chicken novice, I've got lots of questions. Do I need to put things in the run to amuse them? They're happily pecking around in the snow at the moment and I've ordered some hanging seedy things..erm...but do they need 'toys'? That sounds like a silly question...sorry - I'm full of them at the moment!
jam
Don't worry, youre not the only one. Most of my questions are silly, im sure everyone on the forum is fed up with them! I normally hang a fat ball or two in their coop to occupy them if im out all day, or put some mealworms on the floor and rake them into the woodchips so they have to scratch around for them. Redwing
not toys as such but they do like to jump on things, mine have tyres and they really like those
Ain't Nobody Here
Things to perch on are good - large logs, or branches stuck through the bars. Ikea shoe racks work well too .
Plum
Hanging up cabbages keeps them busy. If you hang them a little too high so they have to stretch it gives them some exercise. I may be wrong but I understand you shouldn't give them bird treats that contain fat or suet. If you are sure you have no rat or mice problem then hiding some food in their perches and under the bedding keeps them amused.
