My Las Vegas and San Francisco Holiday Tales

Recommended Posts

Well, I am getting over my jetlag after my holiday, and now feel ready to report back and post some pictures :D

Whilst there were a few issues along the way (hotel problems, returning home to fraudulent credit card transactions, Henry needing vets attention whilst we were away etc) I am only going to focus on the positives on this post :D as overall we had a fantastic time

We started our holiday on Christmas Day in Las Vegas. We had a brilliant time, and over the course of the few days we were there we went to 3 different Michelin starred restaurants (see Michelin thread here... http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=57054) and went to see some great shows. We saw Jerry Seinfeld who was brilliant and funny, he was supported by Larry Miller (who was in 10 things I hate about you) who was also really funny. We also saw David Copperfield who is quite simply breathtaking!!! How he manages to make motorbikes and cars appear from nowhere I will never know but he was spectacular :D We also went on a night time helicopter flight over the strip which is something I have always wanted to do.

Some Las Vegas photos below (more photos can be seen on the Crazy Thread, but those are our ironic miserable photos  )

We then moved to San Francisco, this was a few days of general walking about at Fishermans Wharf with some sightseeing and shopping built in. One place we went was Winchester Mystery House. This was a house that was built by Sarah Winchester of the Winchester rifle family after she was widowed. She believed that spirits of people killed by Winchester guns were haunting her house, and so she built strange staircases and cupboards to confuse them. She kept carpenters working 24 hours a day on her house for decades!!! A fascinating story and place to visit. Whilst we were there Phil also met Jeff Barnes an Oaklands Raiders American Football player (I should point out that Phil didn't have a clue who he was, but my brother in law is a BIG raiders fan, so Phil was able to get a signed picture for him)

We had a brilliant time and have returned shattered but it was well worth it :D

Phil is 5'10'' so not that short, but yes, the football player is HUGE!!!!!!

Yes, you get escorted around by a guided tour (basically because she put so many trap doors and false passages in its the only way you'd get out in one piece  ) It was fascinating :D

There wasn't a chicken run, however, there were these HUGE bucket things in the house, and both Phil and I looked at each other and I said to him "Are you thinking what I'm thinking", he nodded and then we said together "Giant dust baths" and both fell about laughing - the other people on the tour couldn't work out what we were laughing at  They also couldn't work out why when you had a choice of going through a big door and up sensible stairs, or go through a tiny door and go up tiny winding stairs - we chose the tiny door

Giant dust baths

Only Omleteers would think that!

we chose the tiny door

Murray and I went down Old Basing House's sewer. I can't begin to tell you how long and how uncomfortable it was - and dark. Only one other fellow in the group came - because he had been before and I think in case we panicked. As if! Well Murray might have done.

Me too! :D

We haven't travelled longhaul since BC (before chooks  ) so I am really nosy and interested when it comes to other people's holidays. I used to have this fascination with travel brochures aswell where I would read them from cover to cover.

Great pics by the way and Vegas looks fab! 8)

Your photo of the Embarcadero at night had me smiling, when I'm in San Fran for work, my office is 2 mins from there and I love it :D

I hadn't heard of Winchester House, but it's on the list now for my next visit which is unfortunately months away!!!

Hope you're feeling relaxed and rested now :)

Your Phil and my Phil are the same height! Ooo Spooky, Except my Phil has decidedly more grey hair now!

Thats hilarious that you both thought 'dustbath' only omleteers eh?

The house sounds absolutely fascinating - possibly worth a long haul flight just for that! :D

We had our dream holiday in 2001 just a few weeks after 9/11. Had a week in Vegas,

a week in Los angeles and a week in Hawaii. We also had saved for a long time to do this

holiday but as I am a nervous flyer wasnt keen to go after what happened, but when we

got there we had a fantastic time. Would love to go back to Vegas and Hawaii, was a little

dissappointed with Los Angeles though. We travelled with Titan Tours and they are fantastic

although a little more expensive than other operators. One thing that appealed to us was

they take you To Heathrow and are waiting for you on your return and bring you right back

to your front door. Great after a long flight home!!!

Joy xx
