kimbo_frog
my girls are all ages from -1year - 3years+ Im usually selling 3-4 boxes of eggs from my girls every week BUT... since October I have had 2 eggs from my 15 girls!! It seemed to start when my not-so-nice neighbour decided to have a fire right next to my wooden fence, coop and run.... I came home to find my garden filled with smoke and sparks.... I hosed the coop and run with water and ventilated the chook house to make sure the girls were all ok... since then Ive had 2 single eggs within 2 days of the fire incident...then nothing... Ive tried worming, de-lice, poultry spice, mealworms, extra calcium, etc etc... Ive now exhausted most options that I can think of to stimulate them into laying again... Its costing me a fortune as usually the eggs I sell cover their food etc.... anyone offer some advice?
sjp
you'll more than likely have to wait untill the days get longer. I've got 2 that are 30+ weeks old that are refusing to lay One started to crouch early December then thourght better of it then again on new years day still no eggs the other is having none of it
kimbo_frog
Ive never had this problem before, all the chooks have laid all year round with less eggs when moulting etc... its just worrying and annoying... Kim
Jools
Chickens take a break from laying after their first cycle. Depending on breed / hybrid, they can lay up to 300-ish eggs, then go into a moult and stop laying, usually over winter. They should start up again early spring. You do get the occasional hard worker who carries on regardless, but this is not necessarily a good thing as they often lay themselves into an early grave. Roxanne
My 7 (now down to 6) hens have not been laying normally for the last 2 months - I am down to 1-2 eggs a day, some days nothing. They all went through a moult late summer/autumn and now look great - it is hard to tell an Omlet hen from an ex-bat -but I am hoping they will perk up and start laying again with an improvement in the weather and longer daylight hours. Redwing
I havent had any eggs in days, maybe 4 in the last few weeks I'm happy as the hens are happy enough and look healthy and thats what is important to me
kimbo_frog
Quick Update: Still no eggs! Not even from last years chick... Ive changed the pellets, tried different suplements, extra protein and calcium. Im not feeling very hopeful, as my friend across the road is still geting 3/4 eggs a day from his 4 girls yet Ive not had even 1 from my girls. JM
One of mine has only just started laying again (since October) and the other 2 haven't started yet (but their moults were later). I've been getting one egg on most days for the last couple of weeks (but not every day!)
Patricia W
I've only got 2 laying out of my 7. One is Teddie who is in her second season but her mate Phillipa the same age has not re-started yet. One of the 3 hatched in July has started but the other 2 have not. Similarly, the two hatched in April last year have not yet started. I think it's the exceptionally cold and wet winter so I don't think yours are unusual. Hopefully, we'll all be inundated soon Tricia

Chucky Mama
Can't see any reason why they shouldn't lay then. I think that you are not alone, mine have continued to lay all winter but I know masses of people who have had next to nothing. Maybe the warm weather (when it comes ) may bring with it some eggs
