clootie
A job centre has been slammed for refusing to display an advert for a 'reliable workers' - because it discriminated against unreliable applicants. Recruitment boss Nicole Mamo, 48, tried to post an advert for a £5.80-an-hour domestic cleaner on her local Jobcentre Plus website. She ended the job offer by saying that any applicants for the post 'must be very reliable and hard-working'. But when Ms Mamo called the Jobcentre Plus in Thetford, Norfolk, the following day she was told that her advert would not be displayed. The world has gone stark raving bonkers!! docsquid
Why does this not surprise me? I remember an equal opps course that I went on at the University where we were trying to write a job advert and in the end we almost couldn't write anything. The job in question required a certain level of academic ability, but we were not allowed to mention it in case it discriminated against people who hadn't had the opportunity to get the required qualification! For a University (research) position! The argument went that some people might not have done well at school because they were poor or from a disadvantaged background, and therefore not have had the opportunity to go to University. Had they done so, they might have acquired the skills and knowledge to do the job, so they shouldn't be discriminated against, in case they had the potential to develop those skills if they'd been given the opportunity. Oh, right! So I could just apply for a job as an airline pilot on the grounds that when I was a kid, women couldn't be pilots, so I never got the chance, but I might be a good one! Crazy. freddie
When we were looking for an apprentice a few years back, not that many, I foolishly rang the job centre, and asked if they could think of anyone suitable on their books "oh no madam, we dont match our clients to jobs" I'm serious.
