Snowy
Took the girls for a nice long canal walk this morning. Got to some locks and one was being filled, so I waited and watched the water rise. I noticed Candy kept going to the edge and peering over. Eventually the water reached the top (about 5 inches from the path). I heard a soft 'sploosh' behind me and turned to where Candy had been - no dog! Then she surfaced - she must have tried to lean over for a drink and slithered in She could have just walked a few more yards and she could have paddled through the reeds to get a drink. I had to hoick her out. Further upstream, walking under a bridge - another 'sploosh'. I couldn't believe it when Ruby surfaced and I had to pull her out as well. Honestly, it would've been easier taking the two children - they have more sense around water!

The Dogmother
daft doggles... at least you didn't have to go in after them! Ruby has webbed feet and swims like a fish so I have to tell her to keep out of water or she'd be in it all the time

Laura & CTB
My Mum's always having to drag her dog out of the river - I can understand the attraction in summer but in January always seems a bit on the barmy side to me. They obviously love it though bless them

The Dogmother
Mother of Idiot Hound here Was walking said hooond this afternoon and she was exercising the local rabbit population (don't worry; I was calling her off at the last minute) when I saw that she'd gone through a thick hedge into the next field, a glance told me that this field was full of ewes with cute little lambikins and that she'd somehow managed to get through the electric fence without getting zapped I shouted for her to 'wait' - my command (using the Voice of Doom) for her not to go a step further, so she stood there, but decided that as the fence was buzzing, there was no way that she was going through it *exasperated sigh*. She'd jumped (as only a saluki cross can) over a very deep ditch full of water, so I couldn't get over to retrieve her either. In the end I got her to wriggle back under the fence, but the poor thing got zapped in the process. I gave her a good fussing, but she's very subdued now and giving me that Eeyore look that lurchers specialise in I had images of Mr Farmer coming out with his shotgun and accusing her of worrying the lambies
Lewis
I feel left out of the idiot hound stories ... Will have to work on father We used to walk our friends spaniels with them in the park every weekend and one of them would always come back soaking or covered in mud. Some friends of a friend have a dog shower/wet room! (they're just a little bit posh ) next to the back door so the dogs go straight in, wash and dry off and then can go into the house
The Dogmother
Rubes just has to make to with the hose outside if she's really mucky. I try not to wash her too much though as it can cause skin problems. Just noticed your posting time Lewis... BED.... NOW!
