If you click on the above, you will be taken to my blog. The third pic down shows what has happened to Mini's eye. This is an ongoing problem which started back in October. It is assumed to be a cyst. I have been back and forth to the vets with her, and we are now left with only two options. If left alone, it is hoped that the cyst will eventually die back, and she will have lost the eye. The other option is to surgically remove the eye, at significant cost, and risk her on the operating table. I had decided to leave well alone, but the swelling has now got significant, and i am wondering if I've made the right decision. She is eating, drinking, dust bathing and running for treats as usual, and has made a full recovery from her illness (mycoplasma). She is coping admirably. Has anyone had experience of anything similair?

She has had three types . Also, an ointment. I have tried everything, believe me. I have posted this on another board, and the only option seems to be a return trip to the vet and surgery. Gah. I do feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place If she doesn't make it through surgery, I'll be so upset. She's my favourite. I'll also have to explain myself to my wonderful husband, who has already paid out over a hundred pounds in treatment. I'm predicting that surgery will not be cheap.

Ohhhh, poor little thing, bless her, and you. It must be awful to have to see her like this. but as she seems happy and is running around, eating and drinking, what more can you do? It seems to me that you have done everything you can and there has to be a point were you have to call it a day on vets expenses.

I hope she carries on been happy for a long long time but i think you can rest easy knowing you have done everthing you can!

My take would be to leave her alone and let her enjoy her life (as she is clearly doing). Maybe the cyst will die back and she will lose the sight in one eye, but as long as she has quality of life.....?

Poor little thing and you as well. My thought is that if it isn't bothering her or being pecked at by other birds then I would leave well alone. Either way she will lose the sight in that eye. She is managing OK with one now so that shouldn't change. If she appeared to be in pain then it would be a different matter but as she's happy I wouldn't put her through the trauma of surgery. Hope it goes down over the next few days though.

This is what happened to our little Willow.

 

The gel one vet gave us was absolutely useless and because we persevered with the gel instead of asking straight away for Baytril she sadly lost the sight in her eye.

 

She still has the blind eye intact (out vet was against removal) and manages just fine.

Argh, so on the other forum I am being advised to get it treated! It's so hard to know what to do. She does seem to cope with it, but I am worried that if the tissue keeps growing at the rate it is, it will split the skin on her face (sorry), or affect her respitory system. If it was just a case of the eye closing over, I would leave her I think. The growth is the real threat now, I fear.

Yes, her eye was bulging out at one point and looked awful, when it was infected it was all "gunky". Once the infection died down her eye went completely grey and muscle like and is still the same now.

I think Paul seems to be speaking wth some knowledge on your other thread, he is pretty confident in these matters I dont think he would offer advice if he wasnt sure

 

Perhaps ask if the vet can relieve the pressure a bit, there must be a lot of gunk in there, some things need to heal from the 'bottom up' rather than healing over if that makes sense, so it may well need draining

She died on the table . Vet said it was an abcess, and would not have cleared up on its own. It would eventually have travelled into her nervous system. I am heartbroken.
