HELP - poorly Serama boy - worried he won't survive tonight

Recommended Posts

Help please! Keema's been quiet (no crowing) for a couple of days. Noticed in sunday he moved his head sideways a couple of times - looked like he was dancing. I thought "Must worm them soon" but he didn't do it again so thought nowt of it. Last night he was lethargic but eating.

I got home tonight and instead of on the perch with the girls he's in the nestbox. I thought he'd be dead, but no, he was sitting on the day's eggs looking sorry for himself. Comb points are dark (think he has a dodgy heart anyway). He doesn't have the energy to flutter into or out of their indoor run, nor to get on the perch. No interest in food but managed to get a few seeds and a lot of water down him. Poos are runny green - like mashed spinach - and white.

He will not take any flube-laced pellet porridge and is now perching on wall of nestbox occasionally struggling to hold his head up.

Hubby's away and I don't know what to do :( :(

Thanks Tasha. I've tried to syringe him a little yoghurt but don't want to overstress him. I'm wondering if it's poisoning due to the green poo - could I possibly have accidentally dropped a fragment of potato peel on Sunday? He's always had a bit of a weak chest and a wheeze, so I don't want to rule out non-respiratory problems...

Cheers all.

Back to the chook doctor this morning. His sinuses are blocked again and he has a sore throat. He's staying with them for the day and will go in the nebuliser a few times for antibiotics, get his sinuses flushed out and get some high-energy food into him.

they agree he's probably got a dicky ticker, so if he's struggling to get oxygen due to his blocked nose it'll put added pressure on his heart.

Bless, the girls are so confused without him.

Thanks everyone. He came back from the vets last night after four goes in the nebuliser, a shot of metacam, sinus flushing and two crop feeds. He looked so sorry for himself so slept in my bedroom on his fave blanket. This morning I got a few seeds and a few carrot gratings down him but wasn't convinced he'd still be going when I got in from work. Left him in the bedroom as it's warmer upstairs with all his favourite treats.

Braced myself for the worst when I got home, only to find him on the landing - little trail of poo behind him - trying to work out how to get down the stairs!! He's wolfed down a load of corn and carrot and given Lily a good seeing-to! He's still poorly - vocally very quiet and back of comb very blue but definitely interested in life again :D

The poos were definitely dodgy due to not eating - thanks for looking that up for me redwing xx - so they're now improving a little. I've managed to get tomorrow off to spoil him rotten, then they're going on the Flube-laced pellet-only diet for a week.

The girls are SO pleased to have him back! They were little monsters yesterday without him to keep them in line :) Thank you all for your concern - I'll post a pic of him recovered soon xx
