Valkyrie
Just to let you veggies and mum's of veggies who all eat Quorn mince and the chicken (hah) pieces - Sainsbury's has an offer in the freezer section - £1 per bag. We are having chilli this evening!
Lewis
Ahh ... Lewis spotted a few of the chicken pieces in the kitchen earlier, this is why We have the chicken pieces all the time normally in pasta bake, not so much the mince but you have to for a change sometimes

Griffin
I made shepherds pie with it last week and "Ooops, word censored!"ody in our house noticed it wasn't beef mince While it's on offer it's cheaper than beef mince so I've stocked up on it
Cinnamon
It really upsets my tum,but the veggie daughter loves it,so I will look out for it - thanks!
Valkyrie
I haven't recently, but was asked today to do a Cornish pasty with it (without the pastry). Last time I used Trex which gives it a more lamby greasy feel to it (I know that sounds awful, but Erin wasn't too keen until I tried it and now she's happy that it reminds her of the meaty version). But I would only do that if we can have the lamb option too. Normally it's shepherd's pie (when the boy is out), pasta or chilli.

Valkyrie
That explains a lot! Soya mince was discovered as an alternative to leather furnishings.

Valkyrie
We started with soya - a bit flavourless but at least no fat, gristle or as I usually wound up with - bones! When Quorn came out we found it had more flavour and as luck would have it none of us have bad reactions to it. Apparently in America there has been some problems but I don't know what the outcome was. Probably litigation somewhere! Funny how things are discovered when trying to invent something else. docsquid
I quite like Quorn mince, although tend to use only a small amount in recipes, and add other things like seeds/nuts and chickpea to make a veggie meal. I find soya mince a little flavourless, and don't like the texture so much either. I sometimes have the Quorn sandwich slices (in chicken, ham or beef style) for lunch too. I am not veggie, but will only eat meat once a day, and also aim for 3 meat-free days a week.
Milly
This has been a useful thread - I sometimes serve Quorn when we have a vegetarian to dinner and I never knew that it can cause a bad reaction in some people! I will check now before it serve it to someone new. I have never tasted it on its own but it's really good in a curry. Milly
Valkyrie
I always added Marmite to soya to add flavour, but I agree the texture is rather bleh, it was good to start with though - Quorn wasn't around then, so I just tried it to see what the difference was. Not too keen on the sausages - the only sausages my lot like are the hot dog garlic and soya ones - poooooo! Or Linda McCartney's sausage rolls (not the sausages - we are getting fussy here! ). Lewis
Or Linda McCartney's sausage rolls (not the sausages - we are getting fussy here! ). The Linda McCartney sausages are the best! We can only seem to get them every so often in Sainsburys though!
Valkyrie
Had a couple for lunch today - oh dear, don't tell Cookie - all those calories. Saw some in the shops last week. Erin was highly delighted and couldn't get them in the oven quick enough (I hadn't told her I'd bought them). They didn't have them for Christmas - when I thought they would definitely be there, so perhaps someone requested them.
