Egghead68
My little pekin went downhill suddenly today after a long battle with mycoplasma and had to be put down. This leaves me with one lone pekin who is fit and well but a carrier of mycoplasma. I don't know what to do for the best. Is it less bad to keep her as an only chicken or to buy in some more chickens and then knowingly put them at risk of mycoplasma. Or does anyone know any way of getting chickens vaccinated against myco? The only advice I have had is to have my remaining chicken put down and start afresh but I can't bear to do this. I'd be very grateful for any advice or suggestions.
Redwing
I'm sorry about your little Pekin Its too late to vaccinate now I believe as I think this needs to be done within a few days or weeks of a chooks life Most flocks have Myco present in them, its not that un-usual so dont panic I would keep her on her own for a couple of weeks just to check she isnt actually showing active symptoms then consider adding other chooks (once they have gone through a quarantine of their own of course) If you are really worried you could add hybrids as they will have been vaccinated bt honestly I wouldnt worry too much and I certainly wouldnt get rid of your remaining bird
Egluntyne
I agree. See how her health is for a couple of weeks and then if she seems well, get her some company.
