Goosey Lucy
Introducing... Hattie and Betty Betty looks rather the worse for wear, I think she's had a lot of feathers eaten in the past but she and Hattie are now happily settled into the spare . The other girls have given them a fairly good ignoring so far. Betty is particularly small, I'm thinking she's a bantam of sorts, she came with Hattie and was with two other COF who have been rehomed by laxeybobby. She has more developed comb and wattles than the other three so I'm wondering if she's older? Hattie seems to have been pecked around the comb/eye area so she's looking abit rough too. I hope they'll soon look a bit better. Any thoughts ideas on age/breed/feathers gratefully received
jellykelly
Can't help you with the age or breed - but awwwww. I have a soft spot for 'battered' looking birds.
Goosey Lucy
I have a soft spot for 'battered' looking birds Me either - I went to see them to give their temporary keepers some help and advice - and came home with the two slightly battered ones
legend21
Im with JellyK, someone more experienced like Tasha will know age breed, but they are cute, lucky you
tom123
Lovely I would say they are both in lay and have been for a little while. The first one looks like it has a pea/rose comb so it must have some Wyandotte or Brahma in there. Does it have feathered legs? The colouring looks much like a Lemon Pyle Brahma. The second one is hard to tell as it hasn't got many feathers but it looks a lot like my Rhode Island Red Bantam hens. From the picture it looks like it's neck hackles are darker than its body. If so it could have some Red Sussex in it.
Goosey Lucy
I'm assuming they are Bitsas, but they do have very yellow legs and quite yellow skin. They are also tiny compared to my Light Sussex girls, I'd end up with a sprained wrist if i tried to held them on one hand Betty is more the size of a pigeon than a hen. But boy can she move - faster than a speeding bullet as YS accidentally let her out of the run yesterday evening, it took a lot of persuasion to get her back into the run with hattie while keeping the other 4 girls out of the way! No feathery legs *shudder* thank goodness. betty has beautiful blacky green iridescent spots on her neck feathers, she may turn into a beaytiful lady. No signs of eggs from either of them though and no crouching either. There is the possibility that they are related
tom123
My RIR banties have very yellow legs and skin which they are meant to and are also the same size as a pigeon (roughly). Whatever they are they're lovely Egg wise, I wouldn't expect them to lay yet as the shock of moving home will have disrupted them.

Tutti Frutti
Lovely I particularly like the way Hattie is sitting like she's got her hands on her hips. Cuties
Goosey Lucy
Thank you all for your lovely comments. Tom I think you've convinced me that Betty is a RIR bantam. Thank you As for Hattie, she seems bigger than Betty but maybe that's just because Betty is so bereft of feathers. The little group they were in had another hen almost identical in colouring to Hattie and a third which was mostly the same orangey colour of Hattie's breast/head but all over. I've been wondering if there might some Old English Game mixed in there somewhere? I've spent ages looking at so many different images I know I'll never be sure. But they're lovely hens, much calmer than my Pepperpots who would rather run a mile than be held I've had lots of cuddles with Hattie and Betty already. As for if/when we get eggs, I'm not worried so long as they are happy and healthy (but ickle banty eggs would be cute)

tom123
I would say that Betty is a RIR bantam cross I think Hattie has some Lemon Pyle Brahma in her due to her colouring and comb... Click Click!
