New felted hat and tablemats/pictures

Recommended Posts

I've done a bit more felting which I thought I'd post.....

First of all, I've made a hat.....it's a bit like a beret design but with more shape to it. It was quite difficult to do as it's all done in one....with no stitching. You use a resist made from plastic, which is basically a large circle, you lay out the fibres on one side, overlapping the edges, and partially felt it, then you flip it over, roll the edges over and put wool onto that side, again overlaping and flip those over the other side....then you felt it and felt it and felt it....once you feel it's felting well, you cut a hole out on one side, just a bit smaller than your head to start with, take out the resist then continue to felt... I made up a band using some black felt to put around the edge to keep it neat. It's autumnal colours on one side and black on the other so is reversible, and is made to match the scarf and fingerless mittens I've already made...this is what I ended up with:

I've also made some tabletmats, well the plan was for them to be tablemats but I like them too much so may hang them on the wall, when I finally get my little cottage in the future! I've done one with poppies and one with cornflowers and plan one with marigolds, but have run out of the colours I need, so need another trip to my fab place near Huddersfield...

These were quite tricky to do as they involved both wet felting and needlefelting for the detail so took a lot of wool and time!
