Guest
We've got too many eggs! Or, have we got too many chickens? No, definitely not too many chickens, no such thing as too many chickens! What to do with all these surplus eggs then, even with giving them away to family and friends I still can't use them up fast enough. Sell them of course! I googled if it was legal etc and it's perfectly legal to sell surplus eggs without registering yourself with anyone etc It's classed as 'farm gate sales' http://www.poultry.allotment.org.uk/Chicken_a/Chicken_Egg_Excess/farm-gate-egg-sales.php we just write the date the egg was laid on the shell in pencil. So, I got some cards printed up from 'vista print' for free, I only had to pay a small amount for postage. I put the name of our road in front of the word 'eggs' to make it stand out and I popped them through all our neighbours' doors. front back So far, I've got an order for a dozen eggs a week from one neighbour and it saves 2 sheds carting a load of egg boxes into to work to sell them at his place. I always fancied being a farmer! Edited March 5, 2010 by Guest
Space Chick
Good thinking I'd consider something like this, but I already have too many customers and not enough eggs
tom123
I do this too and it pays for all their feed and bedding But... Or, have we got too many chickens? Too many chickens? Too Many Chickens? TOO MANY CHICKENS! No such thing!
ladyjulian
That looks like a plan if we move house or get more chickens! We know what to do with our surplus: our neighbours have been 'casually enquiring' whether the chooks have started laying yet for a few weeks, we finally took pity & gave them some eggs at the weekend. Cinnamon
I do the same - love Vista print I also got the husband to paint 2 beautiful slates that I found with 'eggs for sale' One is on the wall of my house, facing the raod (as its a pretty village,we get a lot of walkers), the other also has 'sorry no eggs' on the back,& is in the porch,so I can display whichever suits. I have 3 regular orders now Once or twice I have given a box away on Freecycle, but that was before I discovered home made lemon curd, which uses heaps! You are right Poet - no such thing as too many chickens!
Redwing
I dont sell at the gate I dont want strangers to know where there are chooks A few people in my village sell eggs for 50p for six too I take some to work and usually end up giving them away but a couple of people give me a bit of money for them
jimnpaula
We have customers lining up at our local church coffee morning. We always sell out.... . . . . I think we need more chickens too! (Will have to put the prices up so we can afford a wir.) P
Raina
I've been giving all my eggs to my Nan, I gave her 12 last week, she offered me £5 for them but i told her no as she's always buying us stuff. She even brings the girls a 100g tub of mealworms every time she visits
bellekatz
I take my spare eggs into the staffroom or OH takes them into work - we sell them for £1.20 a box. we have regular takers and the money goes to the teenagers funds for expeditions to India and Kenya. How clever of my girls to sponsor the teenagers
chickweed
I rarely have surplus eggs with only having two chickens. But when I do, I beat the eggs and freeze them individually. They are a great standby for those times when the supply dries up in mid winter or during a moult.

Guest
I've had postcards, rack cards, business cards, a lawn sign and a T shirt from them some were to do with the eggs, some for my mum's side-line and some to do with my poetry.
