Hair curl cream

Recommended Posts

After being inspired by the topic on hair straightening spray (which i used to use, but it is very strong), I was wondering if any of you know of a good curl cream for hair. I used to use the Trevor Sorbie one, but for some unknown reason, they have decided it should smell of hyacinths, which give me a migraine  Luckily I'd only bought a small travel sized tube (the packaging had been changed so I guessed they may have messed with the product).

I am a curly girly :P

What do you need it to do - bring out the curl, get shot of the frizz....

I use Frizz Ease serum on my wet hair, then I let it dry naturally.

Then each morning I poke it a bit with an afro comb, then spray L'Oreal Royal Jelly leave in conditioner on it & run my fingers through.

On especially 'mad' days I use my wonder product - Frizz Ease Secret Agent, which is a cream that you run through dry frizz,& you end up with curls :D

In fact the entire Frizz ease range is fab :P

I do use Frizz Ease serum after washing my hair, but I do now get a bit of a greasy look :( I only run it through my ends and scrunch out the water. I have tried the Secret agent stuff before, but I'll have another go and see if it does what I want it to. I have their finishing cream which is excellent in teeny amounts. The problem with my hair is I have quite curly hair at the back and the rest is very straight. I used to have dead straight hair and had it permed for years and years. Then I didn't have it permed for about 4 or so years and did the hair straightening thing and it was still curly. I wish it was curly all over :(

Have you tried the 'light' version???

Even then I only need 1 'pump' on my shoulder length hair.

I am opposite to you - curlyest on my fringe - the rest needs coaxing to match

Avon have a good range of shampoos, conditioners and gel stuff for fraction of price. I will post name when I've been upstairs to check it (she says as she munches her toast and tea) I got instead of frizz ease which i love but is very pricey and ES uses it by the bucket load. My friend who is Afrocarribean said it tamed her frizzy hair so i thought I'd give it a go and it worked for me. I will check on names. You can get it on line if you dont have an Avon lady.

Tigi bed head do a lovely range of products. I took the leave in conditioner spray on holiday with me. My hair was fab condition & went into natural loose waves/ curls as I left it to dry naturally.

They definitely do things especially for curls. Just search the Tigi website. They sometimes do promotional packs of 3 products with brilliant discount!!

Bumble and Bumble do a thing called "Surf Spray" that smells fab and gives good curls but is very expensive. TBH my thick wavy hair has been encouraged to curl much much more by following the "no shampoo" thread on here...It's every bit as curly as it was with the Bumble and Bumble spray, and it's completely effortless. Don't rub it with a towel when drying either...I blot out the excess water with a towel and then wrap my head in a £5 microfibre turban from M and S (very attractive...it's known as "the silly white hat" but works a treat). Then just a poke around with an afro comb puts the curls in place. Best of all...cost £nil - literally no shampoo, no conditioner - just hot water in the shower every two or three days. My hair is in great condition and (reasonably) well behaved (for the first time i don't wake up with a "bus hat" - ie looks like I've slept on a tour bus overnight  ). I do accept however that part of the reason it works for me is because of the texture of my hair and if your hair is fine or flyaway it may well not be a solution for you.

Maybe I should try the no shampoo malarky again  . It didn't really do much for me last time but that was when I was trying to straighten the curls - now I'm embracing them  .

But you still stuck at it for ages.....It was mostly your efforts that encouraged me to try the no 'poo method out ANH, and I'm so glad I did. Give it another go....nothing to lose and everything to gain (£££) and if it doesn't work you can go back to shampoo!!

I found that that sticky heavy feeling you get for the first few weeks ( to be absolutely a couple of months!) whilst your hair is adjusting was just about the same way my hair felt after I'd washed it with 'poo then annointed it with "products" every day...so actually I managed to persuade myself my hair felt no worse without shampoo than it did with!

V interested in this thread as I have curly hair which is usually OK-ish to control, but since I have taken up swimming for fitness, is getting v dry, despite using a swim hat and piling on conditioner/hair treatment after each swim. I have tried Frizz Ease and if I use enough to tame the frizz I get the greasy hair look. I was recommended Aubrey Organics Swimmers Shampoo...has anyone tried it? I think I might try the Tigi or Avon next.

Dragging up this old topic as I have made an absolute FIND for my curly hair :P

Lush have brought out a brilliant hair cream called R&B - I got a sample from them & am a complete convert.

I just use an afro comb on my hair in the morning, the rub some of this though & end up with nice defined curls which also smell wonderful.

The girl in there today said that you can also use it on damp hair before blow drying,& it makes it really sleek.

As an added bonus,it leaves your hands silky soft all day :P

A pot is £9.99.but it will last ages - my sample is still going strong after 3 weeks!

Look for products called 'Curl Activators' (usually mixed with a moisturiser) intended for Afro hair. They are great, comb through hair when patted dry with a towel, then leave - you can add a little mousse to your hand too. The curl activator keeps the curls and ditches the frizz. I use it daily after washing and it keeps my curls without the frizz.
