BiBiBi
I am beginning to think that chooks are more intelligent than they are given credit for..... Yesterday evening i went to put them to bed and collect the last 2 eggs. I shut their door and then opened the hatch....and there was only 1 egg in the nesting box, not 2. I thought oh well...just about to close the hatch when Miss Bettina Pepperpot (pictured below) suddenly tilted her head right down into the nesting box and beginning nodding at it.....so I took another look in the box and, lo and behold, underneath all the bedding at the bottom of the box, was another egg!! Was Bettina trying to tell me it was there? Here we are having a little chat: Linda xx

chickencam
I have a very chatty chicken. I haven't a clue what she tells me about, but she tells me a good long tale everytime I go outside. She comes right along her brach perch up to the mesh and shouts at me
fluffyknickers
My two gingernuts arent too bright either! If they are in the eglu run with the door open and I come out with a treat they cant work out how to get out and just keep walking into the side of the run. My pepperpot will then find the door and come and nab all the treats!
BiBiBi
they cant work out how to get out and just keep walking into the side of the run I don't think mine are quite as stupid as that...but they are slow compared to Miss Pepperpot...The other day I was digging and chucking worms into the run but Miss Pepperpot was getting most of them and 1 of my gingernuts wasn't getting any. So I saved her a big juicy one and when she was alone down one end of the run and Miss Pepperpot was up the other end, I thought now is the time to give it....so I bent down and held it out for her...just a few inches away from her.... but Miss Pepperpot spied it from the other end of the run and managed to get to it first! sandyhas3chucks
they are not stupid that is for sure. They have a fair vocabulary, and memories that have stunned me!
BiBiBi
They have a fair vocabulary, and memories that have stunned me! ....on the subject of their memories...do you think they have a sort of "species memory"? ...I was wondering because, one day, while everyone was out I decided to be naughty and bring Miss Bettina indoors, which is strictly forbidden by my partner and his brother (we all live together). Anyway...she immediately weeed on me and pooed everywhere by the time I'd got her to the kitchen ....and she has never ever done that before (and I've handled her a lot). I thought she must be literally "sh*t-scared" that she was about to be put in the oven....but how would she know that the fate of many, if not most, chickens is to end up being killed by humans ...unless... it is a species memory.... I mentioned the idea to a friend who thought I was daft but I'm not so sure... What I am sure about is that I had a horrible mess to clear up and I won't be doing that again in a hurry!
