MrScruff
Might sound a bit silly, but door for the WIR .....opening inwards..or outwards????
Cooks
well I think we are all different I have mine opening outwards, others have it opening in and some have stable door type its a personal choice.
legend21
Your own preference, mine opens out but has a lock inside as well because when I am in feeding them I dont want the door to blow open, so have lock outside and inside. Opening out means I can open with one hand and push the porridge in front of them, I think if it opened in the would bet past me, but I am just biased because mine opens out Jackie
chick wiggle
Definately opening in, if my door opened out, the girls would be out of that door quicker than you could throw corn! If it opens in, your sort of pushing them back into the run when you open it.

Lewis
sorry Lewis im obviously missing something why do you have a 4ft door, im very interested jackie Will use it as a FR door for the chickens, and if we ever swap round can put it behind the eglus to get at them easily

Kit
I have doors on both ends which open out as when I planned it all I could imagine was that the aubiose would get in the way of opening inwards. I have locks on both sides so that I can pull and lock the door shut when I am in the wir to stop them escaping. One side is stable doors with a chicken hatch on the bottom door and the other side is double doors to fit the cube
Cooks
I did think about a stable door but opted not to have it, but I cant think for why now.. I am having a little chicken pop hole put in my door soon so I can let them out without the whole run being open.
MrScruff
Hehe, thanks for the info It just confirms my suspicions that you are all barking mad!!!! I just want to know...where can I join lol Think I will leave the door to the end as, by the sound of it, I need to plan an inward door with an inner outward door, barn style, plus a mini-hobbit-like entrance and a private VIP door for chicken-sized creatures only ...and its only Tuesday
Cooks
you;ve already joined.. welcome to the mad house..
MrScruff
hehe, I know..spot the deliberate mistake-duh! Wire mesh to attach to 14 panels is the next job on the list

Tutti Frutti
I have an opening-out stable door* on the 2nd of 4 panels... Eglus to the left and gravity feeder/water directly to the right. Really handy in the mornings as I can just lean in to let them out in the morning and makes a quick job of putting in fresh water, without them escaping and making me late for work whilst I chase them around the garden in my PJs and wellies *PS was a solid door but was sawn in half soon after Mr Frutti locked me in the WIR on Boxing Day in the freezing cold when I was meant to be making lunch for the imminent arrival of the inlaws ! At least now I can escape (pad bolt on lower half on outside, normal bolt from top to bottom on inside).
MrScruff
Aha!! I think the question of escaping chickens when you are in a rush/early morning was my main worry when designing the door. I think I am going to leave the Cube door open all the time, but refilling the feeders and water without being rushed by a herd of hungry chickens hell bent on free-ranging is on my mind I might check your WIR picks and steal some ideas-thanks. Ps-I am sorry, I did laugh at Mr Frutti’s mistake as I have already threatened Mrs Scruff with the WIR being her new home if she misbehaves
Falkor
I highly recommend an emergency escape pulley on your WIR as I have been locked inside mine on more than once You would think I would of learnt the first time I now have an nifty handle! Cooks
I got locked in mine when I had a bolt on the outside, hubby locked me in and trotted off, I was not best pleased so with the lock on the inside too this doesn't happen. ha!
