susanb
hubby is at vets with Daisy now. The fox got her. Caused a prolapse (vet has dealt with) but also a wound which has penetrated to her air sac.....causing breathing problems. Has anyone ever had a chicken get better from something like this or should we let nature take its course......don't want to be cruel and try to keep her going if it is just going to be worse for her. anyone any ideas??? Redwing
Did the vet see the wound or was that only spotted later? I'd say recovery from a deep puncture wound yes but the damage to the air sack sounds bad so I'd say a check with the vet even over the phone would be a good idea

chelsea
Hope she pulls through. My Ella recovered from bowel surgery, some hens can be plucky little things. Best to keep her inside in the warm when she comes home.
Chucky Mama
Good luck. I have seen owls recover well from surgery for damage to their air sacks. Success may well depend on how she copes with the shock and the anaesthetic as much as the surgery itself.

susanb
sad to report that she died. The vet operated for over an hour - and managed to repair all the damage - but then Daisy had a heart attack when they gave her oxygen to bring her round. Need to work out how to tell my 5 year old that his chicken is dead!!! (but that will have to wait until tomorrow evening, I think)
